At the end of one of the Christmas functions, one blokey was overly drunk, but suprisingly light on his feet - indeed prancing around as if practicing ballet - The music had stopped, the house lights were on and most were filing out (we dont giv'em the keys, just a file), but this guy was still prancing about - typical festive hi-jinx? I dont mind that at all.

What I did mind was when he decided to turn his "swan lake" into a fan dance by reaching into one of my 12inch single boxes and grabbing two records at random. Alas, he didnt have hold of the open end of the sleeve (lets face it, he only had a 1in4/25% chance, in the first place...) and so a 12inch frisbee was created.

Vinyl 12'' Records are fairly resilient as endangered species go, but unfortunately chair legs are not exactly brittle now, are they... fear.gif My 12inch of Alisha: Baby Talk, was now an 8inch and a 4inch... 014.gif

Thankfully, without prompting, the guy handed me back both (now three) records, both sleeves, and .... a £5 note. Not a bad trade for a record which only gets played at "selected" moments - however, there are certain tracks in my collection which I know a £5 note wouldnt have met the replacement costs for, let alone sentimental value - even assuming that the track could be found anywhere, anyway.

What tracks do you have in your collection that you would hate to loose, get damaged for any reason...be it replacement cost, rare track, collectability, frequent plays etc...?

too many to list, i have even been offerd £50 in a pub by some bloke wanting to buy the track i was playing......

It would seriously annoy me if my new promos which I spend a lot of time tracking down go that way. Also, some of my irreplaceable CDs such as some of the Ibizam chill out compilations.
Steve
Most of my vinyl... would be gutted if this had happened but it all stays at home now, too heavy and too much time and money spent tracking down music that I like!!!

Some of the vinyl I have I occasionally look at what they go for on eBay and its suprising the value in vinyl

with almost 14,000 records in my collection these are a few i would hate to meet a drunken punter, thats why the havent left the house lately:

kraftwork - the model in luminous(if thats how you spell it)glow in the dark vinyl. only 50 pressed for record execs. was offered £250 for it almost 9 years ago. no sale

ET boogie - forgot who its by. was taken off the shelves after 2 weeks because steven spielberg was going to sue for millions

the chase - georgio maroda. i think this was the theeme tune from midnight express

de la soul - i think its called magic number. single sided promo with his raised picture pressed onto the other side

rappers delight - shugarhill gang 15 min. import. paid £10 for it back in 1979 this was the first ever rap record ever to make it to the uk. and still being played in clubs today.

One of my most treasured bits of vinyl on Sunnyside! (Blue & Yellow label). I have it under my nose as we speak love.gif thumbup.gif

Edit: forgot to add I heard it on an essential mix back in September on Radio 1, made my day.

Ouch! Phone Home...

Has to be my (pristine) 12in single of Hotel California. It was one of the 1st 12in pressed and nobody knew that they were 45rpm, so didn't sell too well at the time.
Naturally it has never been on the road.

Probably not worth anything now but a 12 inch version of Wilson Pickett - Midnight Hour (remix) from 1988 is sorely missed after it was trod on by a woman in heels ! (DO NOT ASK !) Have since tried to get it on cd with no luck 014.gif

Allo John's worth a few bob huh.gif
That's handy cos I've got one, also got Jilted John; Gordon is indeed a moron tongue.gif

For the last 20 years I have not sold or got rid of a single piece of vinyl from my collection no matter how bad it might be.
The reason being, I started buying records regularly from a very young age, and by the time I was around 17 I had quite a big collection, which included a lot of Glam, Punk, New Wave & 2-Tone. But when I was 17 I was getting heavily into reggae and it was considered "uncool" to like all that Punk, New Wave stuff etc ( wacko.gif ), so one day I took a huge pile of records down to a local Record & Tape Exchange and received about a score for the lot. This pile included some early records from the Sex Pistols, The Clash and many others.
A few years later I was at a mate's house and was looking at his copy of Record Collector magazine. I was horrified to see that quite a few of the records I'd previously got rid of were worth quite a few bob. oops.gif One of the records from the Pistols was worth £30 and another from The Clash was £25 etc and I'd sold the entire lot for just £20 014.gif 014.gif 014.gif I was gutted, the worst thing was that when I got rid of all that stuff, I had still liked it and to make matters worse most of the stuff I sold I have since bought on either record or CD anyway. wallbash.gif
Anyway, after reading that mag I decided NEVER to sell another record again!

hi eskie,
if its the 12" dark blue cover with sayel on the front and a picture of a car in the background and the b sise starts with hello john minicabs here, youve got the original.
as far as i know the b side was banned and all records recalled and then re released with a tottaly crap track on the b side.
think im going to have to buy the record bible with all the prices of rare tracks.

it sounds like you and me used to buy roughly the same sort of music back in the 70s
£100 a week was a lot of money for me in them days.

so when are we going to meet up for that drink as im only down the road in wembley. pepsi.gif beer.gif alcoholic.gif
Eskie
Mr Bond, yep we do need to sort that drink out.
I'm in Wembley every monday cos I play 5-a-side at 'Goals'. D'ya fancy a drink at the Green Man on Braemar Ave (near Wembley Arena)?
I'll probably be in there from about 8pm with a couple of the guys from football. beer.gif

Anyone else on this site from around NW London?
dj007
what a small world, thats my old watering hole about 20 years ago.
dont think ill need my new tom tom go navigation system cos its about 800 yards from my house so hopefully see you there on monday
