Ok I always seem to have trouble when I get a crowd that like this sort of music...

Los Lobos - La bamba
Arrow - Hot Hot Hot
Gypsy Kings - Bombolero y Volare
Ricky Martin - Maria
Ricky Martin - She bangs
Rick Martin - La vida loca
? - Lambada
Black Lace - Conga
Gloria Estefan - Conga (not the dance in a train version)

Ok so they are all Latin american style music or maybe you would describe them as tropical and they are well known but can anybody name any other well know popular tunes in this style as I always run out?
+Scooby+
That’s pretty standard 30 something party tunes, trying chucking in a bit of:

Cher
Tom Jones
Bee Gees
Supremes

I’ll email you a spreadsheet when I get home that I use covering eras and genres.

Dynamic, you've listed a few different styles there.
Arrow is Soca, Gipsy Kings are European Latin (Spanish/French), Ricky Martin is a more commercial US Latin sound, same for Gloria Estafan although she has done some good Salsa. Black Lace is simply pooh.gif whistling.gif

Gypsy Kings - Bombolero y Volare

The Spanish for "and" is "y" so they are asking for 2 songs here, which are 'Bamboleo' & 'Volare' or you could use the Gipsy Kings megamix on their greatest hits album which contains both tracks.

Here's a few useable tracks in those styles:

Soca:
Nigel & Marvin-Follow The Leader
Lord Kitchener-Sugar Boom Boom
Pete Campbell-Dollar Wine
Preacher-Jump & wave
Super P-The Curry
Anslem Douglas-Who Let The Dogs Out (this is the original)
Baha Men-Who Let The Dogs Out (this was the far inferior cover version)

Salsa:
Celia Cruz-Guantanamera
Gloria Estefan-Mi Tierra
Cocolate 2000-Mayonesa
Tito Puente-Ran Kan Kan
Maelo - Amar Sin Condicion
Orquesta Mulenze - A Mi Me Huele

European Latin:
Gipsy Kings-Djobi Djoba
Perez Prado - Cerez Rosa

US Latin:
India - Llego La India (could also be in the salsa list)
Los Del Mar - Macarana

Samba
Gilberto Gil-Toda Manina Baiana
Sergio Mendes-Magalenha
Kaoma-Lambada
Airto - Celebration Suite
The Samba Show Band - Brasiliana

Ok that sounds like a great start. I Already have a few of the songs you have listed but I hadn't really though of those.

Some I shall have a listen and see if I can get hold of them.

As for the Gypsy Kings yes I did mean the megamix!

The Gypsy Kings Megamix is fab:) used it many times:) all over the place

There's also a great version of Ritmo De La Noche by Chico and the Gypsies which was released in the 90's which is always worth checking out!

There's also a great 1994 remix of Arrows Hot Hot Hot which has a more soca feel to it:) and loads more drums!

Other stuff to look out for in the Soca direction is Byron Lee and The Dragonaires who have some very useful tracks!

and of course Lord Kitch's Sugar Boom Boom, which I have on orig 12"!

Plus anything by the Mighty Sparrow, which is great for dancing too(Check the lyrics though!)

One of the best places to get Soca and in fact lots of great world music is Stern's in London

http://www.sternsmusic.com

also a fab label to look out for is Sonny Roberts Orbitone Records

Eskie talking about Gilberto Gil, reminds me that I found his greatest hits CD in the attic the other day, sounds fab as well:)brings back some great memories

Steve's right about Byron Lee, he's done some great stuff. He also did a far better version of the Macarena which is the version that I usually use if I'm asked for that song.

I also have the original 12" of Sugar Boom Boom notworthy.gif . It is an absolute must-play at some of the gigs I do. The reason though that I didn't include it on my list above is because it is very popular at West-Indian style gigs, but not so much for yer normal English punters rolleyes.gif
The Mighty Sparrow; thumbup.gif wicked, and what about Explainer toot.gif
