I've seen on other threads mention about roadies getting tips, drinks, percentage payment, etc., but how much would you actually pay them?

(I say would, and not the word 'do') 042.gif

Nothing, because I don't use them

I normally use a roadie and pay him £20 per gig. He is enthusiastic and reliable and he also looks after the powerpoint show we normally have running, taking pictures of the crowd and changing the presentation throughout the night.

On the odd occassion that he cant make it i end up talking to myself and that's a bad sign...

I'm happy to pay my roadie in............ lurrrrrrve!!!! wub.gif

IF he wanted money I would'nt be without him so would pay whatever it takes, as it happens though he is happy to 'play' and fix stuff and all that for a beer or three!

Well I had 2 this weekend, and did I pay them?
Not on your life! biggrin.gif

Did they do what I needed them to do..... nono.gif sterb188.gif

Spent half my time worrying that they'd get in to mischief, so all this pair got was a night of free entertainment and the pleasure of my company.

But anyone that usually comes along about £20 + drinks & of course the pleasure of my company.

I think anyone who totally works alone - respect. I used to work alone until a rather 'sad' incident in Brighton a few years ago.
I use a number of roadies on rotation.

They get picked up and entertained via 'beer money', but I would not be without them.
Unlike a typical 'roadie', they are licenced as 'supervisors' and carry first aid certificates.
The most important thing for inviting these gentlemen along, for my peace of mind, is to literally protect my gear and assist in lugging it out safely at the end of the night.
Since the 'Brighton' incident - there has been only a handful of 'crowd incidents' and I'm glad to say we (roadie & I) were not heavily involved.

That said - if any of my guys takes a 'crack on the chin' as a result of either protecting my gear or supervising the safety of others near the gear - he gets a minimum 'bulls-eye!'

Apart from my resident venues where there are 'supervisors' employed legit to do this sort of work, I use 'Super Roadies' for 18th's, 21st's, 30th's AND 40th's.
And, they take requests which is great to allow me more time to concentrate on the gig.

Not everyone will agree with the way I work but the guys are pro's, don't need pampering and correcting.

O.K., they look like 'nutters' or 'muscle', but that's a deterrant!!!! rolleyes.gif

If you all remember an old post by me saying I dont use a roadie I use a sister (worse) or a mate,
Well I pomoted them to roadie/sidekick wacko.gif

And as I speak now with one arm being held very tightly behind my back 014.gif and a very big raised eyebrow, I have been informed they are neither.

In there own words.
they are the entertainment party.
or dj's/kj's in training, whatever the occasion
