hi everyone, had a 60th birthday party disco the other day where everyone was aged 30-70 with 2 kids (under 10). Well the 60 year old lady who's party it was came up and requested.............. DARUDE - SANDSTORM!!, well i couldnt believe it. so i played it and she and all her mates (aged 50+) all got up and danced, they loved it. I still cannot believe it, anyone else had any strange requests like this??

High Fidelity
I've had it requested at a 50th and it went down well.

I'm 53 and it's a track that I turn the volume up in the car to.

I don't like playin new music infront of my parents, last time I played blackeyed peas - shut up in front of them. they liked it.

Digital discos
Yesterday, I had someone wanting Rod Stewart- Maggie May. I was like Maggie May for 12 year olds. I played it somewhat reluctantly but had a packed floor to my relief/suprise.

We regularly do a gig for a local society where a 23 year-old always comes up to ask for Bill Haley's Rock Around The Clock. It's his favourite record.

Thats an unusual one, Darude!
When I done a 70th Party a few weeks back now I was asked for Eric Prydz - Call on me, the lasy said it was a catchy song! And I played it cos I like the song too! Got weird looks though. Went back to the older stuff after that song tho. fear.gif

Well I did an 18th on Friday night and I can't believe I had the whole crowd doing the actions to Superman and The music man!

And wow what a party it was, the floor did not clear once!

Sounds like a good one Dyanmite. I really enjoy discos where the crown are joining in more and getting involved.

Last year i did a wedding where the couple and all their guests were past retirement age. I was asked to play 60s & 70s which i played for the first 2 hours then was requested 'ministry of sound stuff' (in their words) for the remainder of the evening! As i knew it was an oap night i had neglected to put the clubby cd's in my case, but i had the triple cd 2003 m.o.s album in the car so i played that for the remaining 2 hours.....very odd huh.gif

I know the elderly can 'appear' to be tottery and 'out ouf touch' at times, but to be honest, I think many 'elderly guests' are quite happy to participate in the music of a function if 'everyone else' is on the dance floor! smile.gif
Or, the 'elderly' will grasp-the-nettle and 'get-up' on the dance floor before everyone else, no? We can rely on them at a gig! thumbup.gif

So when I read about 'elderly' dancing to either Darude, Faithless, The Prodigy, etc, it brings a smile to my face - that's nothing!

Birthday Girl - South London, early 2004 - 90 years of age (and what a mover!)
She joined in to loads of tunes including:
Hot Hot Hot (conga)
Lambeth Walk
Agadoo
Rock Around The Clock
Shake Rattle & Roll
March Of The Mods (propa troop dance!)
Cotton Eye Joe (line dance)
5-6-7-8 (line dance)
Achy Breaky Heart (line dance)
Hi Ho silver
Glad All Over
La Bamba
Come On Eileen
The Can Can
and ....... Oops Up Side Yer Head!

She tried to have a go at the Casper Slide but just laughed at everyone else!
Real physical participation tracks!!!!
Mind you, most of the night looked like the scene from Cocoon whistling.gif
Big ups to the 90s, eh?! biggrin.gif
