OK, running on from the Super-Deck post, well now its time to design you own custom mixer.
Consider the following features, stating which features you'd want, or not want, and why?
Rather than saying "Yes" to everything, try to imagine that every option you go for, would add between £5 and £10 to the price.
-------------
2, 3, 4, or more music channels?
Number of inputs per channel (switchable between Phono and CD/Aux)...2 inputs per channel, 3 inputs per channel etc.
Rotary or Linear faders for each channel?
Rotary or Linear crossfader?
Rotary or Linear faders Master Output?
Crossfader assign (only applicable to 3 channel or higher)
A rotary pot (1,2,3,4) at each end of the crossfader, or the facility to assign each channel to be either A or B (left or Right) on the crossfader.
Cue/PFL/Headphone select. push buttons above each channel fader, or a single rotary control by the headphone controls.
Split Cue on the headphones?
Cue/Master pan (this is where you can crossfade the headphones between the "live" and "Cue" mix to hear what it would sound like if you used the main crossfader at that time.
Send/Return Channel for external effects?
Internal Effects processor?
BPM counters?
Colour/finish?
XLR outputs?
Record Out Outputs? (with or without mic)
Booth output - to drive local monitor speakers?
A connector to allow a gooseneck/bendy light
Back-lit controls (like on a car stereo)
Auto Gain controls (EG: it adjusts the input gain on each channel, to match whats playing out already)
Auto Mic overide (dips music by X% when you talk)
Size? 19inch rack mount, or 10inch wide "compact"
Input level (bouncy) LED indicators on each channel?
Modern styling overall, or retro (1950's styling)?
3 band EQ on each channel, or just a single 5 band equaliser affecting the Master out.
Well known brand / dont care?
Best way of answering, is to COPY the above options, then PASTE them into your reply, with your own comments.

uumm.... us girlies would like a mixer that not only does what it does with those slidey thingamebobs, but one that does manicures, mixes pims, has in-built mirror and lippy holder and shines a really flattering light up at our little faces!!!!!

I hope that Rob comes browsing this way in the Morning

should keep his R&D team busy until the PLASA!.
How about his 'n' her Mixers - one with built in Beer Can holders, and one with all of Karens Beauty Aids??.
Must admit that the back lit controls is a great idea, some of the older McGregor P.A Amps had this feature!. Having spent most of last last weekend changing over the Leds in my cousin's Mobile Phone for him,so it would be blue and "Kewl", its amazing what can be achieved with a few leds - two burned fingers springs to mind

How about a mixer that arrives on the day that it was supposed to be shipped to you. Additionaly, how about a mixer that is water proof, for those poolside summer afternoons.

Hi Ryan, shame you are not in the UK - chris would make sure your mixer arrived on time - but dont know about the waterproofing - mind you in the UK all mixers should be with this weather!!

could do with spit proof mics too! I HATE letting anyone use my mic - only let host or really close family member use if I can - I stopped letting those silly little drunk people who want to sing over classic tunes a long time ago - eeeeyoouuw!

Hmm, Gary. List could almost have been written by a manufacturer! Be interesting to see what gets added, apart from the "cut and paste" operation.

I think that the His 'n' Her's mixers sound sweet...so perhaps mixers with interchangable fascias (like some mobile phones have) might be on Paula's list of "Mixer requirements" (together with 16 mic inputs for those lovely end-of-the-night multi-(drunk)singer numbers that she likes so much...
