Hi everyone - I already have a McGregor Amp and was thinking about buying
some speakers - does anyone have any experience of them - I was
looking at:

PS15/600 600W 4Ohm

All the best, Chris

Wooaaa, I am not alone then!!! I have 6 x McGregor PS15/500 - 500W RMS full range cabs.

For the money (about 700 a pair) I think they are pretty good. I have had them for about 7 years, only blew a cone once and they have taken a lot of punishment. They have a good range, the drivers in mine are Eminence with 1" titanium drivers.

You are welcome to come and listen if you are near me (Sussex).

Oh, and they are dark blue huh.gif apparently, Turbosound did some blinfold tests, and the consensus was that blue speakers sound better huh.gif 533.gif laugh.gif

Six - wow!

Thanks for the demo offer - it's a bit of a drive down from
Glasgow though. I've heard the speakers a couple of times
and they seem a pretty conveninet way to build a reasonable
system.

Any advice/recommendations on how to drive them?

Thanks a million, Chris.

Whats the matter with you! Glasgow to Sussex? I thought you Glaswegians were tough...EASY!!!! tongue.gif OK, I get your point!

I only drive a pair of speakers for the average gig for up to 120 guests from a Numark Dimension 4 amp. If it is a marquee, I will add a pair to the amp - ie 4 speakers.

My speakers are all 8 ohm, in your case, they are 4 ohm, so you really should not have more than one pair per amp.

For bigger gigs, I add speakers and amps.... I also have a couple of 500W bass bins whick I use for dance music oriented gigs drool.gif

If you have not bought them yet, ask to hire them with a suitable amp from the retailer selling them. If you want to buy, you should be able to get a refund on the hire if the chappie is reputable. All those years ago, I had earmarked £800 for a pair of Cerwin Vega 15" cabs, I hired a pair, the hirer called me back saying that they had failed and I would be better off getting the McGregors. He used these on his hire stock and never had a failure. I reluctantly gave them a try, and was so impressed, I bought a pair. I have not regretted the purchase, I even managed to by 4 more second hand a couple of years later.

There is another manufacturer you may wish to investigate: Deltec. They were at Plasa, and they make really good speakers for mobile use. They also use Eminence drivers which are highly respected.

Marky Marc will now come along and advise you to get a 10Gw JBL stack tongue.gif

Cheers,
Brian

Great - I've been using a Dimension 4 for a couple of months now and
have been really impressed with it. It was hearing the McGregors with
the Dimension 4 that made me think about buying some of the speakers
as my current Alessis aren't well matched - too little power for the Amp 8(

I have a McGregor amp and speakers from the days when I played on 7" singles I have taken the decks out and just use the amp and mixer now. It still sounds super and apart from big venues when I use a peavey amp and bigger speakers I would never consider buying a new set up. the speakers although well hammered always sound spot on and very responsive.
