Following on from another thread this is an experiment aimed at DJ's who have DJ'ed at private family functions this weekend.

Below is the current UK TOP 20. To see how important a role the Top 20 plays at the average family function in your local area, please list the tracks that you played at one or more functions this weekend. Please do not include Club / Pub Work where New / Chart Music would be the Norm and expected.

1 Girls Aloud - I'll Stand By You

2 Destiny's Child - Lose My Breath

3 Lemar - If There's Any Justice

4 Gwen Stefani - What You Waiting For

5 McFly - Room on the 3rd Floor

Going on last weekend (30th Birthday):

Destiny's Child - Lose My Breath
Eminem - Just Lose It
Usher - My Boo (Slowie at the end)
Christina Aguilera feat. Missy - Car Wash
Eric Prydz - Call On Me
Michael Gray - The Weekend (I only got away with this due to mixing out of Eric Prydz and them mixing on into a speeded up Room 5 – Make Love)
(Also played Bobby Brown - My Prerogative – does that count?)

At a typical wedding I might have also played Girls aloud, but maybe not Michael Gray.

I would say that at the moment there are probably more songs in the Top 20 that I would play than normal.

If your mixer, CD-deck, or external effects unit has "Pitch shifting" or "Key shifting" you can turn either version into a duet with the other singer/songstress....

It's Britney, it's Bobby, It's Britney, It's Bobby.... headphone.gif

Last weekend for me was a 40th Birthday, with quite a few charty requests. From the above list I played:

1 Girls Aloud - I'll Stand By You
2 Destiny's Child - Lose My Breath
10 Christina Aguilera feat. Missy - Car Wash
12 Blue - Curtain Falls
13 Eric Prydz - Call On Me
14 Jamelia - DJ/Stop (Parlophone)
15 Britney Spears - My Prerogative
20 Khia - My Neck My Back (Lick It)

I was also asked for:

6 Eminem - Just Lose It
9 Usher - Confessions Part II/My Boo

But didn't have them, disappointing male 12 years olds everywhere. However, since "Just Lose it" is pretty much "Without me" with different words, I played that instead.
BigBen
Not one.
High Fidelity
Weekend just gone (30th birthday party), nilch, nein, nichts, nada NONE.

Weekend before (21st birthday party) only 1. Call on me.
Discodunc
16th Birthday last weekend.

Did not play a single one of them(no-one requested any of them).

They were what they lovingly refered to as Grebo's(not sure of the spelling of that).

But in saying that, they started off a hokey cokey so we played that followed up with Bob the builder etc. Went down a storm!!!

533.gif I kid you not 533.gif

Dunc.

Digital discos
Last weeked i played (at a youth club) out of the ones in the top 20

2 Destiny's Child - Lose My Breath

4 Gwen Stefani - What You Waiting For

6 Eminem - Just Lose It

10 Christina Aguilera feat. Missy - Car Wash

13 Eric Prydz - Call On Me

15 Britney Spears - My Prerogative

17 Michael Gray - The Weekend

20 Khia - My Neck My Back (Lick It)

I must admit the Michael Gray tune is v.nice and Eric Prydz (and before any of you say i don't just like it because of the video tongue.gif )

I seem to have found that teenagers are getting back into dance. A few tunes I seem to play a lot are Stonbebridge- Put Em High, Junior Jack- Stupid Disco, Shapeshifters- Lolas theme along with Michael Gray and Eric Prydz

But for a gig with mainly over fourties I doubt I would play many of the above tunes, they would probably be only to please the kids.
Kingy
Call on me.

Thats it!

i did a theatre great last night and plaed the grand sum of none. i just find the charts so dire, i try to stay away from them, and i was lucky enough last night that the crowd were more mature and wanted some quality stuff. saying that i played everything from glenn miller to cher, so it turned out a cracking night

This wkend was with a band so played less top20 stuff than normal...the band played a lot of chart stuff from the last 5 yrs or so, obviously kept away from that with a lot of 60's and 70's....i played the following tracks earlier in the night (ie the start!)

7 U2 - Vertigo
10 Christina Aguilera feat. Missy - Car Wash

Top 20 didnt play an important part of the music this wkend!

Steve
MadGutts
Hmm,

Friday night, 21st played:

10 Christina Aguilera feat. Missy - Car Wash
13 Eric Prydz - Call On Me
15 Britney Spears - My Prerogative

Saturday Night, 30th: none, just 70's and 80's !

we spend all that money on new releases, only to play 2 or 3 of them !

i think were daft! stupid.gif
Tonsk
On Saturday did a cabaret night with two acts and then me - only played 1 track, which was Blue - Curtain Falls and that was only during the people arriving when it didnt matter.....
johnd
Admittedly an 18th so 1. Car wash
2. Call on me
3. Flashdance
4. What you waiting for
5. My perogative

But.... After playing 2000 stuff for an hour or so I was increasingly asked to 'Go back in time'!

The Formations Top of the Stairs, most of the Dirty Dancing soundtrack, any amount of Sat. Night Fever and Abba, you name it, if you Northern Souled or clubbed in the 70's, that was the music the kids wanted. I was flaberghasted!
What an outstanding night when my expectations were entirely different.

Cheers

JohnD
