Remember this...
A radio DJ was sacked for playing a song which ridiculed the Taleban, played on his breakfast show.
Set to the music of the Banana Boat song, included the line: "Run Mr Taleban, we know where you're hiding... air force come and flatten your home."
The radio station, also apparently owned by Capital Radio, refused to comment, saying the terms of the incident prevented both parties from talking publicly about the incident.
Apparently, the DJ has settled a compensation case with his employers, but declined to comment about the case.
Even the Producer was also fired over the incident, and also settled out of court.

Even a 'Pro' with over 8 years experience can fall hard.

when the war broke out we received a memo telling us not to mention the war other than "a big shout out to all the boys in the gulf"

I've received quite a lot of requests for songs to be played for people out in the gulf always nice to know people are thinking of them!

Tony Prince, owner (or is it co-owner) of Disco Mix Club, who I was pleased to see again at Plasa last year, once got cautioned by the radio station he was on (in the 70's) for playing a song something like 17 times in one show, over and over and over again. I think it was either Jigsaw or Rainbow "you've blown it all sky high"...

Similarly, in the first few days of Atlantic 252 starting their broadcasts, they played the same 3 songs repeatedly (it seemed)....Black Box: Ride on time(nothing wrong so far...but wait...) Martiki: Toy soldiers....Richard Marx: Right there waiting for you...

My own two worst offences were/are playing "Let's twist again" with a seamless loop set up, so that I can go to the loo, or the bar without fear of the song EVER ending, nitl I'm ready...and also there was the unfortunate and painful incident of me looping the bit from "The Timewarp" of "It's just a jump......to the left....It's just a jump......to the left....It's just a jump......to the left...."

...The whole audience went with it...and ended up squashed against the left hand wall oops.gif ...so then it was "and then a step to the right...and then a step to the right...and then a step to the right..." to get 'em back to the middle... thumbup.gif

Almost forgot during that horrific murder of poor little Holly and Jessica, a bride and groom asked me to dedicate the 2nd dance to the girls. "something that will make people think about it" they briefed me...and they left the choice upto me...(with only 20 minutes notice...oh cheers).

I chose Chris Rea...Tell me theres a heaven, because of the lyrics.

If you don't fancy reading ALL of them...just read the ones inbetween the 014.gif & 014.gif , as thats the point in the song where the Bride and Groom, Myself, The bar staff, and every couple holding each other tightly on the dancefloor, burst into writhing sobs...

The little girl she said to me
What are these things that I can see
Each night when I come home from school
And mama calls me in for tea
014.gif Oh every night a baby dies
And every night a mama cries
What makes those men do what they do
To make that person black and blue
Grandpa says their happy now
They sit with God in paradise
With angels' wings and still somehow
It makes me feel like ice

Tell me there's a heaven
Tell me that it's true
Tell me there's a reason
Why I'm seeing what I do
Tell me there's a heaven
Where all those people go
Tell me they're all happy now
Papa tell me that it's so[/blue] 014.gif

So do I tell her that it's true
That there's a place for me and you
Where hungry children smile and say
We wouldn't have no other way
That every painful crack of bones
Is a step along the way
Every wrong done is a game plan
To that great and joyful day

And I'm looking at the father and the son
And I'm looking at the mother and the daughter
And I'm watching them in tears of pain
And I'm watching them suffer
Don't tell that little girl
Tell me
Tell me there's a heaven
Tell me that it's true
Tell me there's a reason
Why I'm seeing what I do

Tell me there's a heaven
Where all those people go
Tell me they're all happy now
Papa tell me that it's so

I cant remember what I played next...nor can anyone else, it was one of those moments....but it wasnt either version of "Tragedy", thats for sure.

Reading Gary's note has just reminded me of last year. I played a gig at Thetford Golf Club on the evening that the 2 bodies were found. The Golf Club wasn't too far from that spot and most of the people in the evening came from that side of the Forest.
No matter how hard we all tried, the evening just never took off.
