Yes. seems to be making a comeback!, I played Livin' Joy - Dreamer, Robin S - Show Me Love, Corona - Rythm of the night and Dr Alban - its my life on Saturday, I took a gamble and it worked...which makes a change , usually my frankenstein-esqe experiments with this particular crowd fall flat on their face
, but I was getting fed up of the same D.J Sammy, type routines every fortnight!.

The one track I wouldn't be without is a megamix by the Hermes House Band. It lasts 13 minutes and covers some old classics (I will survive, Fame, I feel good etc) but with a better beat.
It's handy if you need a break (either mental or physical) and normally fills the floor. There have been times however when I have cut it short because the punters can't stand the pace for the full 13 mins

Don't know too much about other area's mobile sets, but yes - the 'Old Skool' theme is quite popular in the Essex, Kent and surrounding area's.
Looking at the age of your guests - say a gig has a lot of 30+, then the 90's are going to be very popular!
Watch the crowd jump to Jump Around, The ladies up for The Love I Lost (93remix) Robin S and Candi Staton!!!
But I just can't relate to people thinking Abba is @Old Skool'!?!

For example we nearly always play Billy Ocean(sp?) Love really hurts without you
But i wudnt play that a kids party if u know what i mean
At kids parties u just have the party tracks

This very much depends on the crowd I'm playing to, as my gigs vary tremendously; sometimes I do reggae dances, where the vibes are strickly dancehall, lovers rock and revival (studio 1 and other old classic reggae labels). Sometimes I do soul gigs where it's mostly soul, funk, rare groove R&B etc and then there's the wedding crowds!
Reggae dance must plays:
Alton Ellis - Too late to turn back now
Janet Kay - Silly games
Louisa Mark - Caught you in a lie
Junior Murvin - Police & thieves
Fred Locks - True rastaman
Mr Vegas - Heads high
Lord Kitchener - Sugar boom (calypso tune)
plus about 7 or 8 Dennis Brown tracks such as Sitting & Watching, Cassandra, Revolution, If this world were mine
Soul gig:
Gwen McCrae - All this love that I'm givin'
Rufus & Chaka Khan - Ain't nobody
Mary Jane Girls - All night long
Faith Evans - Love like this
LJ Reynolds - Key to the world
Luther V - Never too much
Weddings:
Stealers Wheel - Stuck in the middle
Four seasons - December 63
Abba - Dancing queen
Elvis P - Suspicious minds
Dean Martin - That's amore
Candi Staton - Young hearts
Yet there is one song that will work on all three of these crowds: Nina Simone - My baby just cares for me!

I get asked for Off the wall & beat it, and of course I want you back is one of the greatest party tunes of all time.
Off the wall was a ground breaking album, with great tunes most of which were top 20 hits, and of course many of the tunes written by the UK's own Rod Temperton (of heatwave fame)
Billie Jean is a great tune and the only one post Off the wall I play

ABC....hmm
Hey ADS what was the crowds reaction when u played that then?
Im curious, cos ive only ever heard it played by a DJ once, but i was too busy singing the words to a girl to care about the crowd
And i must say, if we get asked for MJ, its more likely to be Billie Jean and onwards rather than off the wall stuff. As an MJ fan they are not my faves, and did not score as well in teh charts, U say Off the wal produced numerous top 20 hits, yeah, thriller produced 5 top 10 hits, bad, 6 top 10. Need i say more?

On the subject of music;
I popped into my local "hip-happening music store" the other day, (Tescos..ahem

), and I notice that in their larger stores they have some fantastic offers on multi-CD albums; fr'instance;
I bought a 6 CD album called "The Ultimate Trance Album" (Rob Tissera, Moby, Scooter, Dipesh Parmar, Jakata ft.Seal etc)...
...A three disc set called "Rave Anthems - Old Skool Classics" (Shamen, Candi Statton, 808 State etc)...
...and a three disc set called "Urban Underground" (Artful Dodger, Panjabi MC, Beenie Man etc etc).
12 Discs - hours & hours of tunes for £15. Value or what?
Also, does anyone use......errm.....downloaded tunes, (I don't by-the-way. I don't even have decks yet

)?
I just wonder what the legal standpoint is on this subject...and also how a downloaded tune sounds when played through a "teeth-jarring" PA?
Also, are there "favoured" formats (WMA, MP3 etc) for the "Digital DJ"? Y'know, the guy who carries his show on a laptop/desktop?
Just wondering..
Yanto!

I recommend that if your show is 100% or even 50% Mp3 based, that you spend £90ish on a Sound Enhancer. These give surprising effect to any Audio Feed whether MP3 or Audio CD
. However, it doesn't change the legality of it.
There is an entire topic dedicated to this subject elsewhere on the forum, which should be read by anybody considering MP3's.
