Hi Everyone

I have a couple of questions i need answering if possible. I want to download the latest chart hits from a legal website i.e Woolworths etc, as the singles im buying now are getting expensive especially when bought in bulk. So my questoions are:

1. Has anyone ever done this and whats the quality like?

2. What is the best site to get the top quality tunes from?

3. Any other advice

Thankyou
jonny
well you could try Tesco's, napster, iTunes umm i cant think of anymore

I use Woolworths site.

I trust the payment link, and the download quality is fine.

I couldnt convince Windows censored2.gif Media Player to record the downloaded tunes, and tunes elsewhere on my harddrive onto the same CDRW, but hey that not Woolies fault.

The only thing which tripped me up initially during my first download of 4 tracks from Woolies was that theres a screen that says "Preparing your tracks for download, please wait..." and it sits there.... and sits there.... it was only when I clicked on what looked like a logo, in the top right corner of that window, that the tracks started downloading.

Occasionally, there used to be a gap in their list eg: In the top 40, you'd find that there wasnt a download option for say, this weeks number 12, even though the other 39 tracks in the top 40 were all there. I havent noticed that in the last month or so yet, so I guess they got that sorted now.

No problems from Woolies, in technical terms though.

I tend to keep my legal Woolies downloads on a CDRW (or 2) in WAV/audio format until the next NOW album appears.

I can't get woolies website to display correctly either on explorer or netscape, so I can't use it at this time. So much for standards.....

We use Apple Itunes, It has a huge library of all genres of music, excellent quality and also up to date with the new releases to the point that I'm going to cancel my subscription for Pro Disc because I can download them before it get's delivered.
Occaisionally also use Virgin Megastores but not as good as Itunes.

Do any of these sites state you can play the downloaded track commercially though?

I'd love to download stuff and stop buying an expensive CD single for one track, but no where can I find information on sites that state its fine to play to a crowd, only that its legal to play for personal use....

Dam!n stupid sites! huh.gif wacko.gif 188.gif

Itunes T&C's do state that tracks can only be used for personal, non commercial use but does that make any difference for a private function which is probably most of or all of our gigs. Maybe some of the other guys will put us straight.

The same applies to CDs but as the PPL licence states 'No licence is required for private family functions such as weddings, birthdays which are by invitation only and do not attract an entrance fee.'

New version of napster on the way, with watermarked tracks that can be blocked if you havent paid the licence fee....
