Hi Folks

Just to warn people about possible spoof emails supposed to be from ebay. I received this today and don't believe it came from them because the header info on the mail and on the web address is wrong, it should not have an s in front of the cgi, so beware.

I have forwarded the details of this to ebay.

There is a hell of a lot of these around at the moment, and they are getting more clever with each week that goes by.

The advice is, that Ebay will NEVER ask you to confirm your account details by email. If you get any emails from ebay, always contact them directly from your account control panel and NEVER reply to the emails, or click any link shown on the email.

Had a reply from ebay today and they confirm that it is a fake.

I too have had a few asking me to go to a link and confirm details, I always delete them. If anybody wants info like this, particularly my bank, they can arrange for me to visit my branch.

I seem to get them from 'Citibank' as well.....and i'm not even a customer whistling.gif

I've had a couple saying that an Ebay seller that I have brought from has been withdrawn and unable to sell any more items. And that I should monitor my bank balance.
I think the email was pretty genuine so am not going to report it to ebay, but shall watch bank balance!

This is a common one. There are various mails like this doing the rounds. I have just empted the trash and spam folders from the Email server in my office... We have 48 members of staff with personnal addresses and 4 generic addresses. Almost all of theses accounts had this mail in them.

Unfortunatly there are people around who dont think about these scams and they do tend to follow the links and get into trouble.

Always try and varify the mail - send a reply to the address it came from asking for some information about yourself, if it comes back "Undeliverable" then block the address it came from. NEVER click the links supplied in an email if you dont know who its from, It is actually possible to recieve an email from a friend, relative, enen a work account that tells you " try this, its great!" with a link.
Although these look or seem to look ok, always be careful. Many hackers are now distributing files by hacking email accounts and servers. once you run the link your stuck... it may even be called a "Microsoft Update" but it is realy a gateway hack. 221.gif

I come across these almost daily and they are a pain. 188.gif

So PLEASE be carefull. Read ALL popups carefully.

If hackers put the intellegence to good use, they could earn a fortune...

End of rant biggrin.gif
