How powerful is your set-up?

does this happen when your performing

or are punters supposed to do this all night??
And be honest!! I know how we men like to make a mountain out of a mole hill!!!!

despite not letting people anywhere near my cd's I still seem to lose more and more each gig! Most recent to go missing is Pink - Missunderstood if anyone happens to find one!

I can push just over 2000W with a full set-up (2x RCF Bass, 2x EV's but that takes more room in the motor) - and to manage for over 250+ people.
Generally go out with a 'guest suitable' package (2x EV's on poles) pushing around 600W for up to 120 guests.
On slightly larger gigs, I borrow my friends backup EV speaker system to push another 600W.
(I just wish speakers were even smaller!!!)

Ive got plenty of time to save!, the only down fall is that when i've got enough to buy the rig I'd be deaf from the setup I've got now-although I could purchase a hearing aid (more saving needed!!!-Ive heard they cost a bit!!)

Must admit the old EV's do kick a** I was doing an outside gig for five days consecutively one summer when little boy bout 4yrs old comes up and says "can I say hello to my grandad"? So job duly done and crowd quietly giggling and so on at sweet kid, I says "Where in the audience is grandad then"? Little boy replies "Oh he's not here he's sitting at home in the garden.......... but he does listen every day"!!! Later transpires that home is about one and half miles away!!!!!!

I did a gig once in nineteen hundred and s..harrumph, cough - splutter. It was in a huge, walled country estate. The brief was that we had to operate from an island in a large lake. Guests (including pop stars), would be both on the island and on the shore. Owner said to me, "the guy last year had a huge setup and it still wasn't loud enough, make sure it can be heard everywhere. I own the land for 41/2 miles in all directions, so you've no excuses"..
All I could lay my hands on were 2 X 12's. I lugged ten of them down a steel spiral staircase, along an underground tunnel and up another spiral staircase! Ran them with about 800W of amps.
About 1.30 in the morning in the rain and wind, the guy comes up and says "ergh, police have just called, can you ergh turn it down a bit?"
Spose the punch line is - It's not how big it is, more what you do with - etc..........

Yes, you will be surprised at how far even average levels of sound will travel in the open air on a quiet summers' evening. I have a 10kw rig (for hire I hasten to add, not the D.J rig!) which is rarely used. My usual 1500W system does for 99.9% of the gigs, including the large Young Farmers Gig I do in Derbyshire every August Bank Holiday. One hell of a night, and even 1500W gets complaints from the village - 2 miles away.

Well my speakers and amp for the wattage sound pretty impressive.
AC EURO AC115D speakers [pair][ Trapazoid plywood cabinet ,with metal bar handles, dual speakon sockets, metal top hats,'kick resistant' curved steel grille.
2x Eminence Delta 15,15 inch, 400w rms,40hz-4khz,2.5 inch voice coil,
56 oz magnet,kapton former.
2x FANE HF100 1 inch comp driver[100w AES]
2x Eminence pxb2-3k5, 2 way, 3.5khz,18db/octave 400w rms crossover[with built in protection bulb for tweeter].
Gemini X3 poweramp.Protection against short circuit,Overheat,DC,fan cooled,subsonic and ultrasonic filters,binding post outputs,jack inputs.
2x 200w rms into 8 ohm
2x 300w rms into 4 ohm
1x 600w rms into 8 ohm [bridge]
[CANNOT DO 2 OHM,Otherwise goes into protect mode].
Clip and signal leds per channel,19 inch rack mountable
2x 5m
of 10 gauge Van Damme professional speaker cable,2 core, with Neutrik speakons on one end,Shark banana plugs on the other end.
Three Questions which are important?
1. Running 200w rms into a 450w rms speaker is underpowered, but i do boost the bass a lot with a 2x 2/3 15 band eq.So far it hasn't clipped on the mixer or amp.
2. The manufactor uses a 400w rms Eminence crossover with 450w rms speakers,is this safe,or would it overload the crossover,or does it depend what amp I drive the speakers with.
3. If I went for a more poweramp amp,The Numark 4 poweramp looks very good. 420w rms into 8 ohm per channel,840w rms into 4 ohm per channel,1680w rms into 2 ohm.1680w rms into 4 0hm bridge,840w rms into 8 ohm bridge,2x cooling fan,protection against Dc,Short circuit,overheat,in built compressor/limiter.

I generally use a 600w system for the run of the mill dos but have a brilliant "community" rig.... cleanest, crispest sound I ever did hear... not sure but think its about 5K capability - dont use it myself that much..... hubby does the bigger stuff!

Ive got a pair of 800watt RMS bins and a pair of 300 RMS mid highs - at the moment tho i only run em at 1.1K, All amplification is crest audio (spare included), i just need to buy another amp for the bins to give me more power - gotta sell me spare amp first tho!
