Hi

I have a pair of second hand CDJ 500s decks and I know that they can be started automatically by linking them to a suitable pioneer mixer.

My question is does anyone know how this works?

The "Control Jack" looks to me like a very simple connection and I'm wondering if it might be possible to modify my non-pioneer mixer to do the same job. Another reason for wanting to do this is that one of the decks' play switches is a bit temperamental and "bounces" occasionally.

Any ideas welcome!

Ralph.

I have a pair of CDJ500's and use a djm500 mixer the automatic control is really handy, off the top of my head i think its just two 1/4 inch jack plugs.

No idea if you can modify another mixer to do the same job! Sorry

You shouldn't encounter any problems with using any remote start CD-deck with any remote start on any brand of mixer. They're pretty much universal.

With regards to the bouncy play switch, which on the Pio's usually means that you hit "Play" it plays for a few frames, then goes into cue mode (stops) a few seconds afterwards, there are sometimes some "work-arounds".

On some Pioneer units, once you've got the track cued up to where you want to start from, you can press either "Loop in", or set a "Hot Cue", or press re-loop, instead of "PLAY". This usually starts playback from the cued point - doesnt work on all their older cd-decks, but works on some.

Thanks for the ideas about using loop instead of the play - will give that a look.

The main thing I'm hoping to find out (without resorting to experimenting) is if the control conection is simple on/off switch or whether it is any more complex than this.

If your current mixer doesnt have remote deck start sockets then....in theory <<<<< you should be able to get a cheap audio lead with a 3.5mm stereo jack plug on each end, chop the lead in half and buy two door bell pushes, and then its simply a case of attaching the right pair of wires to trigger the CD-deck start.

Good idea Gary but would the 'ding-dong' at the start of every record get on your nerves after a while ? biggrin.gif
