This post has been instigated by a PM from another member, but I think that the point that was made is valid and worthy of a post.
On DJU, we like to think that we are a friendly, welcoming community which is moderated for the safety of all ages. Many members have formed new friendships off the forum, and some even pass work to each other and attend gigs together. This is what the community aspect is all about, and as the founder of the forum, I would actively encourage all Adult members to forge new friendships and meet up at some point. Provided of course all parties are willing to do this.
Over the last few months and also recently there have been some unsolicited phone calls made between members, and this is where the point has been raised with myself.
Could I ask, that in future, if you wish to contact a member by telephone, that you first contact them by email or PM from this forum first, to make sure that this is acceptable. There may be many reasons why a member does not want to take a phone call, it may infringe their privacy or it may not be convenient. Usually the polite way to go about it would be to first make contact along the lines of 'Can I contact you' by email, and then leave it open for the individual to give consent. That is their perogative and should be respected.
There may be members who would welcome the opportunity to make contact, but equally there are others who may regard this as harrassment, especially if the call came at an inconvenient time.
Please also note that we actively prevent Under 16's from giving out their contact or personal details on this forum, and advise against Adult members making direct contact with them unless it is arranged with parental knowledge and consent.
