This is something ive considered over the years but never done due to commitments here. If anyone who's done this can offer some advice plz, my main concerns are:

1. My business here and if it will remain when I get back.
2. I've got no contacts abroad (Maybe an agency here can help).
3. Do I just get on plane with some CD's and go to every bar when I get to my destination.

Cheers Guys.

Hi there Scotty

I worked in Ibiza for 5 years and absolutely loved it... Although I would say that you really need top have something sorted before you go..

Whether it just be someone who you know and can crash at while trying to get somewhere or an actual gig...

Your business will be here when you get back as long as you leave it in the hands of someone you trust.. I used to hand it over to a dj friend of mine while I went and he handled all the main contracts.. The 21sts/weddings etc were a bit more difficult as people tend to want the person they booked but as long as you make them aware they were happy for him to do it.. Then when I got back you I used to have to let him retain a couple of contracts as a thank you and because he was used to doing them and the cash that that brought in....

It also depends on how long you wanna do it... I did it for 5 seasons but a friend of mine is now on his 9th where as another friend ended after 3.. The bug sometimes leaves or the venue you are at might suck (at one of them I was at one year I was threated by the owner with a baseball bat and the manager threatened to kick 7 bells of shite out of me!). Laws are different out there and you dont have a leg to stand on legally (unless they (in Spain) pay your Segurios which are the Spanish equivalent of National Insurance).

If it's any help, I know of 3 jobs currently in Spain.. One in Ibiza and two in Lloret Del Mar if you want details, e-mail me...

The Ibiza is a fun pub with a mix of tunes and the Lloret is mixed but more r&b as they love that over there.

All in all, if you have the chance- Then go but if you dont have anything lined up you can take some CDs and just head out but treat it like a holiday first and foremost...

TRY and get a job but if you dont have one at the end of a two week holiday, COME HOME... or you will end up hating it.. (Unless you have loads of cash and can support yourself for a longer holiday). The reason why is you see people who want to do one specific thing (DJ/Barman etc) and when they cant and the money is running out, they try ANYTHING... PR/Timeshare etc and that destroys any fun you would ever have.....

Hope this helps!!

Tony
