ADS= Andy's Disco Soundz (remember when it was cool to put 'z' instead of 's' ?, or when you had to be International Roadshow.) Anyway I moved out of just discos (not be disrespectful to mobile DJ's) and wanted a more upmarket target area, so disco had to go, I had to put Entertainments on the end of the name as
a) It tells you what I do
b) www.ads.com was $450,000 to but whilst adsentertainments.com wasn't
When e.mailling big companies with schedules etc info@andysdiscosoundz.co.uk didn't look as good as info@adsentertainments.com. I still own Andy's Disco Soundz but don't use it often.
So why are you called what you are ?

was at a wedding with a friend and she said "go tell the Disco man to turn it up" and after a few more beers the name "disco man" became a company
High Fidelity
Sep 6 2004, 08:19 PM
High Fidelity because I consider my sound to be high fidelity compared to most of the local DJ's, and I thought it sounded quite catchy.
Turned out quite handy too, as I now use Kids From Fame - High Fidelity as my signature tune before doing the welcomes etc.

Luney Toones Roadshows - because when I married Del it seemed more sense to run one company than two.. so... as he had already been established for a lot longer than me, I used his co name

Much the same as me.
Started off as Solitaire disco, then started using other DJs so discotheques and now Solitaire Entertainments Ltd.
I also provide karaoke and run quiz nights/leagues and supply questions for clients and when I was invoicing thought it looked a bit strange for quiz questions to be provided by a discotheque company.
And Solitaire......?
There was a song about in 1984 when I first started Djing, which a few people probably won't remember, but I'm sure a few will!!, called Mr Solitaire by Animal Nightlife. I liked the song, so it stuck.

Sounds Good, established many many moons ago buy my dad, then of course I started working under his name so just carried it on.
Happy Traxx Disco- I wanted something to mean we play party songs, we also use the well known smiley face as our logo, there are so many different objects with the famous smiley face on so it's free advertising for us. First ideas were Smiley Sounds, Happy sounds and then I decided on Happy Traxx. I know it's cheesy but as said earlier we are not here to be taken too seriously.

Party Atmosphere because that's what I provide (rather than a straight disco), still wondering if I should bother using Russ Abbot's "Atmosphere" as a theme tune...
otronics
Sep 6 2004, 10:16 PM
OTronics = Oliver and Electronics. I've put a capital "T" to be unique!! (although I don't know why now b/c loads still use a small "t"). I've thought of putting it to a small "t" but then though ":cense: it"
I did it because I don't just do discos.
I was recently thinking of having OTronics Media Services: X Discos but can't think of what to call the disco side!! I'll come up with something.

1st Class Disco.
I wanted a number so that I appeared high up in the listings - Yellow Pages, etc. I'm based in Crewe so it made sense to try and incorporate a train phrase. 1st Class also indicates the kind of service the punters can receive from me

I know, pass the sick bags around...

If you are from Crewe and wanted a train connection (pardon the pun) I suppose Shi**y Broken Glass Covered In **** Terminal wouldn't really work.

If I was from Crewe, that would probably offend me

Fortunately, I'm from Derby, which, as I'm sure we all know, is the mecca of the midlands

Hi
Started off as Big Mix Roadshow for obvious reasons, that was wen I was based in birmingham.
When I moved the Northants I thought it was time for a fresh start and to think a little bigger. Changed to big Mix Entertainment so I wasn't restricted to disco services.
big Mix because that what we play, a big mix of music.
Also the yellow Pages listings was a consideration. I attended a seminar ages ago regarding sales and with print media it was suggested that most people's eye automaticaly focusses about a third of the way down a page of print, not the top, so I didn't want t be at the top.
Personally, I couldn't care less now, lol.

Same here. (No I don't call myself Chris Shepherd!)
People book me, not the equipment (well I hope that's the case) so I just use my name.

C. B. B. Discos part of the C. B. B. Entertainment company. CBB Stands for well its a secret reason that only a few close friends know

well not really its simple
I started DJing as a support act for a band i was playing with at the time and Cant Be Bothered was the name of the band. I didnt want to be a DJ funny how things work out hey?!?! Didnt think calling by self cant be bothered Discos was a good idea, even though we do have some t-shirt kicking around from the early days with that on. Clients used to find it funny. The band was only called cant be bothered because we couldnt be bothered to think of a name... kinda worked out for the disco side of thigns aswell...... even though i am bothered just not creative with the olde English.... i will shut up now rant over night night

So Chris Shepherd is your real name, and not a stage name

.
Well you never know, he could have been called Bill Bloggs

Another useless piece of information. But Chris Shepherd is also the name shared by a very famous Shock Jock on Canadian Talk Radio. So Chris if you ever go to Canada and find out that you are getting the Red Carpet treatment, drinks on the house etc, then you'll know why!

.
My own name 'The Ultimate Roadshow' was chosen more because of its catchy title rather then wanting to appear to be better than the rest. A few people believe it sounds a little pompous but its too late to do anything about it now, and it wasn't so named to give that impression. Besides, the only other option at the time was 'CJ the DJ' (My middle name is James) that my parents came up with when I was 14

. Thank God I didn't choose that one

Love some of these stories
We (myself and she who must be obeyed) came up with Storm Mobile Disco after what seemed ages trying to think of something that could be visualised and not tie us to any one kind of function or music genre etc, we also wanted something that could be visualised.
We thought that Storm had drama, sound, light, bit like us really Have to publicly admit that it was the missus that came up with the name and our current tag line "creating the perfect atmosphere for your special event"
All a bit pre-meditated I'm afraid
Cheers

Something I considered, after being prompted by the wife, was to use all the families initials:
Mandie (wife)
Rich (me)
James (son no. 1)
Alicia (daughetr)
Michael (son no. 2)
=
"Mr Jam"
Just like Crispy, very glad I dropped that one!

Good job my family are not Trevor, William, Anne, and Theresa
As my name is Brian Mole, I used to call the disco: The Mole in the Hole Roadshow in the 80's and early 90's, but with the advent of the wwwwwwwww thing in the mid 90's I came up with DANCEMIX, which has stuck and it describes what I provide.
We do have names for some of our friends:
Analog Andy got his name because he could not progress from vinyl - vinyl forever (he has now, at long last)
DJ Dory keeps forgetting everything
Dave Double-dex will allways be Dave double-dex
Softoptions
Sep 8 2004, 11:38 AM
When I first started I was doing quizzes. The pubs needed a company name for their receipts so as my nickname was Softlads, I hastily came up with Soft Options. When I moved into teh disco side of things, one of my selling points was that I offer teh customer lots of options and choices, one of which is for an older crowd, they can have the music much softer than at the usual volume. Hence Soft Options. It extended to Soft Options Entertainment to reflect that I offer quizzes, free comedy poems for greetings cards, karaoke, Eurovision parties and discos. as well as my main concentration, internet radio.

Sep 8 2004, 03:24 PM
When I first started doing Discos with a friend in join partnership we decided on the name "Pule Disco", then when we went our own ways I wanted to name my Disco after my name in some way. So I sat down thinking for hours anf found this!
N.R is my initials followed by giz, (energise)
So NRGIZE Disco!
A little different, but am thinking of changing the name to Nrgize Entertainments as I think it sounds better.
In some advertising leaflets I use silly words like "book us for an nrgize-ing party night" etc
be glad you are not still called pule because it means f**k in scandinavia
