I don't know if this is the right place for this but i'm sure you will tell me if its not.
Anyway. Im about to buy an ultimax dj stand with the goal posts. Now i have a picture of it here and it has what looks like 2 shelves but they are to horizontal bars going along side by side vertically with about 30cm depth.
Before I buy this I was wondering if you can buy the shelf so that you can put things on like your cds duel cd player or if it doesn't have a shelf at all.
Hope you can help

I've had the Ultimax 1.7metre "Mobile rig" stand and overhead goalpost (double bar) for about 1.5 years now, but will be upgrading to the Ultimax Winch'n'wheel stand in about 2~3 weeks.
The stand does indeed have two long cross-pieces which basically make up the front, and the back of the stand approx 20inchs apart . Each of these cross-pieces has an upper and a lower bar.
Although Ultimax has recently started selling wooden, carpet covered shelf pieces of various lengths, I've made shelf pieces myself. Simply 1.7metres long, chopped into 4 managable pieces, with two pieces of wooder batten under each shelf-piece to keep the shelf from sliding off of the front or back of the stand. This upper shelf is wher I put my systems case, Technics SL1210 etc.
I also place some of my flightcase lids, lightscreen covers etc, over the lower shelf bars, so that I can use the lower shelf for lighting controllers, dimmer packs etc.

I use the top from one of my transit boxes which is velcro'd onto the cross bars. It's very solid and gives a duel use to a piece of gear.

I used 4mm MDF, 2' wide x X (X being the distance between the two upright poles. When you have the lenght, cut the whole thing in half. Lay the pieces on the stand, and mark where the end frame uprights are and cut out the recess, repeat for opposite end. Following so far - good. put the first piece in place, then the second at the other end and hey presto. No need for battens as the cut outs slide into the end of the frame and the two pieces butt together in the middle. Now repeat the whole operation for the lower shelf.

The formula Mikee worked out is as follows
A/B%X3 (E+P=X2) = 4mm MDF

Well! I have a 1.6m width stand with goal post which my dad made for me. i was going to sell it BUT i've decided to keep it for bigger gigs.
Idealy I was looking for the 1.2m width including the goal posts.
Is it worth getting 1.2m one or should I invest in the bigger one.

Personally I reckon the bigger ones would look out of place for the majority of events.
I just used chipboard for the my ultimax shelf with a few batons- just need to get carpet now.

I have the 1.6m one and it suits me really down to the ground..
I put my twin cd/mixer flight case in the middle and then I put two flight cases of CDs either side.. Fits perfectly with no gaps.....
And I can fit 9 lights on the overhead - Looks a little busy but works very well.. (I have the twin bar and now just velcro the leads onto the bar (thanks Chris) and cover all of it with a couple of custom made hanging things (2 x 1.25m wooden strips)
I used to have a smaller stand (not ultimax though) which I could fit my 2 CDJ500s plus mixer but havent used it since I got rid of the pioneers...
So I would measure what you want to put on it and go from there... I suppose I could just put the CD/Mixer to one side and have only 1 flightcase of CDs on the smaller one - Just depends on what you are comfortable with...
