I know a lot of people use glowsticks for the younger members of the audience.
I was wondering what other props people use and how they use them.
The only props I have are a couple of handbags. If I'm having a problem getting people up to dance I'll put them on the dancefloor saying something like "There you go girls, you've got something to dance round now".
If it doesn't get them up, it at least usually gets a laugh.

All this malarky of props/glowsticks and requests baffles me! So thats a no for me
Bbbbbuuuuutttt, I once went out dressed as a Giant Handbag for a dare, and it was hillarious, I had all these people dancing round me at a club, had huge difficulty in trying to go to the toilet though, couldnt get through the door.
Once I'd reached desperate stage, I litterally just jumped out of this handbag and ran for the toilet in me underware
Great Larff that night

I use tons of props for kids parties..... wigs, inflatable instruments, clothes.. but I dont really use them for adult parties..... mind you.. if my prop bag is in the motor I have been known to rush out to get a wig if the occasion is right!

No props, other than the Glowsticks, which in addition to the more obvious Kids parties and School Discos, are also great for Family Functions where there are a lot of the little

I used to carry an inflatable 2ft mic - was brilliant when someone asked to sing along or for speeches!
The best use for it was at the end of the night when you are 1/2 way through packing up and the taxi driver wanders in asking if you can put a shout for his fare ove the mic

I used to use blow up instuments (guitar, sax etc) many moons ago when I had roadies to blow them up!
Trouble was they kept getting nicked, so after a while I got fed up with buying new ones, just so people could go home and pose in front of the mirror.

Glow sticks - mostly given away. Carry a couple of scarey masks and occasionally get some blowup instruments like sax & guitar.

Having chatted with other DJ's about this before, some are alarmed that I do anything other than play music. My answer is that we are entertainers and we are paid to entertain our audience to the best of our abilites.
When I lived in Derby I attended a gig whereby the DJ's did a dance routine - Blues Brothers I think. That stuck with me and whenever anybody asked for a good DJ, I always told them about that night. They must have got hundreds of bookings based on their dance.
I'd love to do something similar myself, but lack of a roadie and too many Mars bars means it wouldn't look quite as good!
Therefore, I have props. I don't use them at every gig, but I have them in case. Hula hoops, limbo bar, pom-poms, giant Twister and the glowsticks, along with inflatables, wigs, masks and, of course, the handbags from the charity shop. If they're a good crowd I'll place the limbo on the dancefloor and play some Samba. If the floor is full of girls dancing provocativley, I'll pull out the hula hoops. When I play Toni Basil, out come the pom-poms.
I've invested no more than £100 in these gimmicks, but they set me apart from the other DJ's and people remember my show.

Have used all sorts of unique and 'costume shop' props in the past - too many were 'nicked'!!!!
Also used to do a live (band) Blues Brother's routine (have not done that for a number of years!!!!)
Those were the days.......
Have occasionally used the 'ole vocals' as a kinda 'prop' for functions - generates good feedback, cards given out, etc.
