I've been looking at colour changers, just to give my datamoons a rest during the evening.
I've looked at EVL and also Source, but never seen them in action.
Would 2 be OK as a filler or would I need 4 of them?
How wide are the beams - are they just expensive pinspots?
Or, would I be better off going for Abyss rippling water type effect?
Any opinions would be useful on any of the aforementioned products or anything similar.
Cheers

Yep, I use two Soundlab versions, although the look and design of them are pretty much generic whoever manufactures them.
With the exception of the NJD Chroma, the beam is wider than a pinspot, but as with most lighting effects, the size of the beam depends on the distance between the unit and the point it is illuminating.
Colour Changers don't flood like a conventional par can, so if this is what you are looking for then an NJD Spectre or Quartet may suit you better.
However if you are looking for a colourwash type effect then a colour changer is a good idea. There are no real bad ones as such, although i've had some issues with the Abstract versions.
I stock colourchangers by Abstract, Skytec, Soundlab, NJD and I am about to include a competitively priced model called the Chameleon in the next batch of special offers which will be posted in the coming few days.

Thanks for the info Chris.
I'll look out for the Chameleon in the next couple of days.
What about the rippling water effects, could they not be used to gain the same effect?
I've been looking at a DMX version, and they look quite nice in pairs, or are these just really for projecting onto walls etc rather than dancefloors.
Are two colour changers bright enough, or would you need four?
I don't want anything like the Quartet as I think this would be too much.

Colour changers look good when they are positioned on a mirror ball, the light that comes from it is brigther and ou can change the colours easier.

On the Geni versions, if you unscrew the lens completely you get a very effective and bright flood effect!

You can actually get the same effect as par cans(wash) would give if you fit fresnel lenses but not all colours would accept a fresnel lense I'd imagine but I know the evl ones do.

I have two Constella colour changers which I primarily use on mirror balls for 70s nights. They are dmx controlled. I have a spare pair of lenses that give a flood effect as opposed to the standard beam effect.
I also have two abyss lights and love them for the background stuff and slowies.
