A question to you all...

A couple of times I have accidentaly played Groove Is In The Heart and then on Saturday night it was requested.

All the times I have played it, it has gone down REALLY well so may incorporate it into a couple of sets.

With that in mind - what do/would you play next?

Saturday night I played Heavy D and The Boys, Now that we've found love but was tempted to play Dizzy by Vick Reeves...

What would you play??
FrankieJ
It would have to be Love Shack B52s tongue.gif
BigE
and then maybe "walking on sunshine"...

groove is in the heart followed by love shack!......OOoooo noooooo! Personally I would keep to the dance anthems that surrounded this classic! I would put in it a set including.......The source. ft Candi staton, (cant remember what the actual title is but starts with sometimes I feel like putting my hands up in the air) and others such as salt n peppa etc... I really wouldnt put it with party classics!
Steve
Don't play this too much......Beats Int - dub be good to me was what I played after I think the last time I played this track. Played at a pub residency to mixed age crowd and seemed to work ok on that night

Steve
Chrispy
A few spring to mind...

Oceanic - Insanity
Blue Pearl - Naked in the Rain
Amy Grant - Baby Baby
Rozalla - Everybody's Free

Groove Is In The Heart into Love Shack wacko.gif ! hmm, certainly different!
What you play next depends on whether you're mixing or not. If you are then there are loads of suitable/complementary tracks such as Robin S-Show Me Love, Ce Ce Peniston-Finally, Jamiroquai-Space Cowboy (remix). If you're not mixing you could still play these three plus others such as De La Soul (depending on the crowd), Source & Candi Staton-You Got The Love, Cornershop-Brimful of Asha etc (actually all of these will also mix into/out-of it).
But obviously the most important factor is how the crowd are reacting to it?! If the track has made the dancefloor busier then I would stick with the same genre/era, i.e. Robin S, if the numbers on the floor have remained the same, what I would play next would depend on how many songs from the same genre/era had preceded Groove Is In The Heart and if playing the song saw numbers on the dancefloor decrease then I would likely switch to a different genre/era.

...pS...Tonsk, I'm intrigued as to how a few times you have "accidentally played Groove is in the Heart"! wacko.gif

And if you're playing that, and need to get upto date (by a few years)...

Pink: Get this party started....

The two records were made for each other...

As for the "Groove is in the heart" follow on - I've used either Black Box: Ride on time, and "Crystal Waters: 100% (pure love)" with good results.

Incidently...with the above suggestion of "Oceanic"... did you know that the group worked out their name by using an anagram of "Cocaine"... mad.gif

Only one thing to play after groove is in the heart. It will and does go down a storm:

Baby D - Let me be your fantasy

Not B52s - save it for when you clear the floor or near the end of the night!

I tend to go -

Dee-Lite - Groove Is In The Heart
Robin S - Show Me Love
Ce Ce Peniston - Finally
Salt'n'Peppa - Push It
Chaka Demus & Pliers - Twist And Shout

All mixed. Well apart from Salt'n'Peppa into Chaka Demus

Junior Senior works really well with deelite.

There's even a mash up of the two knocking about.
