Anyway, on the sunday night, I was in the small venue when a rumour went around that Frank Bruno was dj'ing in the main venue. We popped into to check him out, and it was embarrasing to say the least. He was trying to mix, but either doesn't have a clue how to or was extremely nervous cos each mix sounded like a train crash, every now and then there'd be a gap, then he played a record that kept jumping, which he left on for at least 30 seconds.
Every now and then he'd mutter something on the mic, that was mostly inaudible.
The music policy in the venue was mainly 70's/80's jazz-funk/rare-groove/soul with a few 90's/2k non-commercial R&B. Frank proceeded to play stuff like Christina Aguilera which the vast majority were definitely NOT into. This went on for an hour and more and more people started going off to the smaller venue, and the people that remained were getting more and more restless.
It seemed to me that the problem the organisers had was how do you tell a bloke that size to get off the decks
When they eventually got him off, and the next dj asked the crowd to big up Frank Bruno there was a light smattering of muffled applause, more out of relief that it was over
he may be bigger than Nigel Benn, but he can't touch him as far as DJ'ing goes.
