Anyone else on here who's into Soul/R&B disappointed with the current release from Beveley Knight?
The first time I heard it I presumed it was a new release from Kylie or some other pop queen. I was dumbfounded when the radio presenter announced that it was Beverley Knight, the lady who had done such great tracks as "Made it back", "Flavour Of The Old Skool" etc.
I guess she'll make more money from it but it's such a shame that yet another great singer has moved into production line pop

That's the music business for you, all 'non pop' will not make as much money unless it is in the Top 40, even as most are for a week or so.
There are exceptions like Norah Jones, Katie Meluia and Shania Twains EARLY hit(s)

Sadly Bev Knight has gone pop....her lastest disc sounds like what Michelle from BB would sound like if she released a tune!
In the music business it's sales which win over quality..and most record company people wouldn't know a great voice if it came and hit them over the chin!

Eskie,
I agree I think Beverly Knight has done the way of other great UK soul singers, file under "waste of a talent"

I’m a big fan of Beverley Knight. I’ve always thought that she is one of the most underrated talents that this country has. (And she always comes across as a really nice person when interviewed.)
I have to agree that I was disappointed with “Come As You Are”. The sad thing is that it has been her biggest hit so far. Maybe “duming down” is the only way she will get the success she deserves.
Here is a list of her hits so far:
Track..............................................Chart Poss.....Date
Flavour Of The Old School......................33.......Oct 1995
Made It Back (featuring Redman)...........21.......May 1998
Rewind (Find A Way)..............................40.......Aug 1998
Made It Back 99 (featuring Redman)......19.......Apr 1999
Greatest Day (Of My Life).......................14.......Jul 1999
Sista Sista..............................................31.......Dec 1999
Get Up....................................................17.......Nov 2001
Shoulda Woulda Coulda.........................10.......Mar 2002
Gold........................................................27......Jul 2002
Come As You Are.....................................9........Jul 2004
I also remember receiving "Shape Of You" featuring Hollywood on a CD Pool CD in early 2003. It was a great track and I thought it would be the track to give her that first top 5 hit. I even saw the (expensive looking) video on MTV etc. But I don't think it was ever released. I wonder why?
