2nd new topic from me today...whoop i'm on a roll...

How many of you lot out there in DJ land drink alcohol whilst on a job? I'm going to assume that the majority of you are going to say "no chance" but I also think we may be in for some surprises.

Whenever i've been to parties (not as the DJ) i'm amazed how much some of these 'other' DJ's knock back (probably for a bit of 'dutch') whilst on the job...
Ian Stewart
Mostly I don't drink at all, sometimes a couple and there have been times where I've drank a lot.

depends on the function is it a wedding, pub or club gig etc

ian
I tend not to drink at most places because i'm more often than not driving home and when you have as many points on your licence as I do, it's not worth the risk.

When I used to do club work ages ago, I had the odd one or four to get me going.
Chrispy
Admit it...we are all a bunch of alcoholics on the quiet aren't we, drowning our sorrows night after night, after "That" wedding - come on admit it, the job is enough to drive you to drink, I've started drinking more...around about the same time as I launched this forum...hmmm!.

I must admit I never touch a drop, either when I'm working, or when I'm driving, it doesn't look professional, and besides if I lost my licence it's two businesses up **** creek!.

On a similar subject how many of you smoke??!! - i'm proud to say i've never even tried smoking...I just spend my life breathing in other peoples wacko.gif.

I'm guessing Paula - the original Cockney Gal, is there on the karaoke - Bottle of bud in one hand...Mikeee in the other...I mean a cigarette in the other!.

A man after my own heart!! LOL

Likewise, but I do wonder about the ammount of smoke I breathe in during a week of working (normally at least six nights)!!
The Spindoctor

No I dont drink when I'm doing my bit, only coke.......
unless it's one of my far away do's where I stay over and then towards the last hour I drink,

& drink & drink, can usually be found the next day still standing by the karaoke ready for your requests.... 042.gif

I never drink at a gig, or smoke (but then I dont smoke anyway!)

I started being the resident function DJ at a local Golf Club. Wanting to make a good impression, I asked another DJ friend of mine to come along and help set up/cover if I needed a wee etc.

He drank and at the end of the night had made a much worse impression of the gig than if I had just done the night myself - So much so that he is now banned from ever doing a gig there himself!

Luckily they differentiated him from me so managed to keep the gigs but close call.. Just goes to show that drinking is not good and that its not always you that cocks things up - You can have the best rig in the world but it only takes one slip up and it all goes to s censored.gif t!!!

we'll i'll admit to it ! i always drink when i'm working, not for dutch courage, i just think its nice to have a few pints, ( i mean during my rave years other substances were sometimes taken / smoked !! ) funny comment about having a wee, as i always work on my own i have to time it carefully and avoid getting into toilet conversations with p***ed up punters !!!
mikeee
Peteee, I'm Mike(ee)

Perhaps a shandy at the start, but 99% of the time Coke. Unfortunatly I do Smoke, if it is a no smoking venue i don't have a real prob. The only advantage is, in a venue that does not allow smoke machines (98% these days), leave a ciggie burning away underneath, makes the lights look good. lol
FrankieJ
yep another none smoker here I really hate the smell of my clothes the next day dont it feel like youve been asleep in an ashtray.
Its ok to maybe have one half (apple juice ahem unsure.gif ) but thats it its not worth the risk as Chris said you need your vehicles to get you to your gigs plus you need to think about when you leave your gigs most of us are on the road at 1-2 am in the morning depending on the event this is when the local police force have nothing else to do so they see a car/van full of equipment pull you up have a breath test and give you 20 questions about where you been tonight what have you been doing etc etc I know ive been there, Its not worth the risk!!! nono.gif

paula
Hmmmmmnnnn!!!!
Off to sleep in my ashtray!
The Spindoctor
Oi !! I'll tell Mikeee you were sleeping on the job!
