I've been offered a s/h pair of RED Acoustics Pro speakers at a reasonable pice. They are 200w, each cab contains 2 x 8" speakers and two tweeters. There are three power amps, two for the bass and one for the highs. Anybody remember these? I seem to remember they got rave reviews when they came out and were quite expensive. Anybody got any info...ie have you used them..how much are pairs going for etc
YourBigEvent
Were RED the colour of the manufacturer ?
Chrispy
These were more of a PA Speaker, realistically you aren't going to get much bass response from 2x 8" drivers.

If you were to use them with a set of Bass Bins, then it'd probably be a good combination, but on their own I think you'd be struggling a little bit in a large room.

Your comments about bass response was wrong :o)
I bought these speakers and its the first time in my life I've ever, ever turned the bass down to a negative position if you know what I mean!(and thats been an average of four gigs a week of various sorts for almost 30 years!). Don't know the secret of these Red boxes, but they are amazing! Bloody heavy though...my back'sgone now! Will just use them as back up and bass bins for the larger gigs. I was stunned...my normal speakers are Celestion Road 15" but they sound pretty lightweight now.

Probably got different drivers etc
Kingy
Interesting, what size room did you use these in? Any other specks? I remember these from about 10 years ago.
buskersball
Medium size room, about 150 people, didn't turn them up more than half way (and it was a rock do!). I vaguely remember the reviews a few years ago. they are American speakers...wouldn't mind another pair (they aint half heavy though. Each box has two amplifiers to drive each of the two 8" speakers and one to drive the two tweeters. I also used a Behringer Ultrafex, (with the bass way down . Anybody else got any comments...any other owners out there?
kazzachi
Just one small comment..... Chris Pointon gave his opinion on this.... which cannot be wrong!... it is HIS opinion - please respect the opinions of others and I am sure others will respect your opinions without telling YOU that they are wrong!
YourBigEvent
8" drivers are still only 8" drivers though
Kingy
Sorry, cant believe this. Saw them many years ago and I would not consider them suitable for disco use with out bass bins of some kind. I dont think they go below 400Hz.

Just my opinion...................... whistling.gif

...thats two of you with the same opinion then kingy! heheheheheheh!

But buskerball isn't a DJ, he plays 'live music' so doesn't need as much bass
buskersball
Not a DJ? Been at it for 20 years! I do live music as well, and karaoke! ...versatile!
kazzachi
...maybe a bit confusing then... you advocate keeping music live on a dj forum?!
buskersball
Room for both! If I wanna dance I go to a club, if I wanna hear a band I go hear a band. Likewise if people wanna book my live music or disco its ok. Enjoy the variety. For instance my gigs last week were Thursday 'live', Friday'disco', Sat 'live' and Sunday 'disco'. Friday was a 'bikers' do..Sunday an eightieth birthday.
Wot a great way to make a living!
PS Might take up magic soon :o)
YourBigEvent
Sorry buskerball, I was put off by the 'no real DJ content' on your websites.
buskersball
Most people are :o)
