I went to a disco recently and noticed they had a moving message display at the front of their set-up. Do any of you use one?, any pitfalls about em, I was thinking about getting 1.

I used to use one, no issues with them - I just ran out of space in the van smile.gif . I believe that NineLives uses two! blink.gif

I must admit I use one and its a godsend advertising wise. Also if you program your pages correctly you can personalise it with the minimum of fuss. I have one page which says "Congratulations to _____ and _____ on this special occasion!! That way all you have to do is enter the name or names and it don't matter if its a birthday wedding or whatever............. but then I'm a lazy git!
Peteee
Moving Signs are are easy once programmed with the messages
If you do put B&G names on them remember to update them. nono.gif
I did 2 wedding gigs with a French message displayed on it from a hen night once.
Silly me never checked it wub.gif
Fortunately is was a clean message despite the lack of French accents. 1087.gif

biggrin.gif , I said I owned 2 , but I only use one at a time ,

the largest one "approx 3ft" is left fitted to the front of the Ultimax Stand ,
the smaller 2ft one is used for Karaoke setups , when we are not using the Ultimax..

I said I have 2 , but its really 3 ! , the 3rd is not much use ! , I bought that one from Maplins, it has a built in keyboard and preprogramed (sp) messages , but red only display , and its scrolling is not smooth, its more of a toy! and is now used as a wall mounted clock !!

OK KARAOKE
Using a computer I create VCDs which I play on my RSQ player. I can put any message I like, and add animations, photographs and backing music if necessary.
I have just finished one which lasts 20 minutes. It is an animated advert for my karaoke setup, with scrolling text urging folks to get up and have a go. I have sound-bites all the way through, along with cartoon animations (singers & dancers) and a running countdown in the Top-Left Corner saying "KARAOKE STARTS IN xx MINUTES".
I have been playing around with this for ages but it`s only since I built a faster computer that it has become a reality - although it is still time-consuming.
I`ve done a few personalised ones of about 5 mins duration for other KJs at 40 quid a go and they have been very happy with them.

I had a 3ft tri-colour display mounted on the front of my goalpost stand and it was faaantastic. Once it's programmed you can do almost anything with it. You could program automatic "last orders at the bar" messages to popup at certain times.

Unfortunately, I had to sell it because Twister 4's had just been launched and I wanted two hehehe. I sold it for £350 which isn't bad considering I got it for 'nothing'

I did a gig in a bar once and the manager was leaving and I had my eye on this sign and he asked me if I wanted it, so I said "yeah"!!! Still not bad for 3 years use and still managed to sell it for £350.
Gary
So, if I wanted a nice tri-colour (or tri-color, for anyone reading from afar eg: West of Lands End), message board, where could I get one at a sensible price. At least 12 Characters across.

Remember not to mention any rival DISCO suppliers, or Chris'll have to sterb188.gif your suggestion, for obvious reasons.

There seems to be two prices structures for these message boards. "Sensible" and "They're corporate customers, charge them the £arth"

Chrispy
I can supply Moving Displays and I'm working on prices for suitable units, and they will appear within the May offers section on this website within the next 24 hours!. smile.gif

Oooo can you program them to display your tack.

And how to they connect to the pc serial or USB.
Gary
The Tricolour message board looks nice.

How easy would it be to hang it from an overhead gantry..(square pole type, rather than Tri~lite) ?
Chrispy
I think that would be fairly easy if you can apply a little D.I.Y, and a bit of modification here and there smile.gif . My last Moving Display, Big Begger it was!, was simply help up with two 2" dia "G Clamps" hooked over the rigging.

I removed the standard "L" shaped brackets that were screwed into the threaded socket on each side of the display, drilled a G Clamp half way down so that it simply bolted onto the sign using the original M5 "Thumb Screw" then simply hung it over the Gantry!.

Ninelives has one of these Displays, perhaps he can suggest another method?.

Mine is not mounted high up, it is just in front of my Cd Decks, and rack mounted stuff , it helps hide the wireing

it's clamped to an accessory bar that is available to buy for the ultimax stands.

LOL dare I suggest 'Duck Tape' ????................ maybe not then !
