3rd Generation Discos
Windows ME is riddled with problems, sercurity problems and loop holes, GENERALY V. BUGGY.

Thats why i don't suggest using it.
Rick
Hey 3rd gen are you another comuter bof like me then tongue.gif

Yep windows ME is very bad and isnt worth using!! Its a stop gap between win98 and 2000 or XP

Personally the only operating systems any good and this is from lots of machine i use to build and make as i had a company doing p.cs are

Windows 98SE or Windows XP Professional (What i use on my disco p.c and 3 others networked together) Or Windows 2000

The rest aint worth mentioning

Cheers

Depends what they're using the system for.. Should never rule out other OSes. I recently built a machine for a client and stuck NT4 on it for them, it's what they wanted..

I only use windows at home for video editing.. Rest of the time I use (Debian) linux, a desktop machine with over 140 days uptime.. marvellous!

I used to use XP, but one day I rebooted and from then on it took over 30 mins to start up.. So I went back to 2000 pro, which I have a love hate relationship with.. But at least it's stable..
Rick
I got no problems with xp pro at all!! I probably have more than 140days up time no problem!!

Maybe the reason is that im using all Ultra Wide SCSI and the machine isnt some rubbish u buy, like some from certain places!!

linux is ok but still not good enough to be an all rounder, e.g for games and the like

My little linux box (I fondly call sparky) is cobbled together from stuff I aquired from different sources, cost me about £30 for the case and that was it! Marvellous..

Wasn't originally designed to be that kind of OS.. Though you can get quake 2 running on it easily, which is more than enough to keep me happy! (easily pleased or something)..

All depends on what you like/are used too.. Most people I know who slate linux have never used it, or used it a few years back or until their first problem and most people who slate microsoft still use their stuff. Me, I'm happy to be BiOSual.. biggrin.gif

At the end of the day, it all comes down to personal taste.. I like linux cos it lets me do what I want to do with the OS (and for little if any cost) and I like windows cos, well.. cos.. err.. Oh yeah, premiere and after effects run on it! Oh, that and a monkey can use it (which suits me)..

Rick
Yeah im not slating linux at all wacko.gif

But yes my macine runs no worries without any downtime!! In fact the last time i restored it due to a major crash was probably november last year!!!!

But I still reakon its sto do with my setup though

tongue.gif

oh btw i have used linux but never really stuck with it!! As u said its personal taste but as microsoft have the domination microsoft it is running the majority oh home machines!!

I never did like that, couldn't get on with the 1 button mouse. way too confusing for me..

That and mac users are more elitest than *nix users (but not more than BSD users)
