Hi folks

I'm lacking in the ballroom type music.

I've got tons of 50's and 60's, rock'n'roll, jazz swing and big band, but I'm lacking in good old Waltzes, fox trots etc.

Any good box sets around? I had a look on Amazon but with little success.

Anyone recommend a good box set that'll do pretty much everything?

Thanks

Darren

Hmm no boxsets that Im aware of, but I supplimented my selection of Strict tempo, or Ballroom tunes about 3 months ago, by visiting both HMV and MVC. Both had single CD's for under a tenner with a good selection on, and the type of dance mentioned beside each track: EG: Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Charlie Delta to base....over.

The HMV CD was under their own brand, not sure if the MVC one was under their own brand too.

By the way, did you hear about the criminal who robbed all the ballroom door takings from the female cashier....?

He said "Dough, dough, quick chick, dough" 014.gif

(doh!....indeed)

apart from crispys comprehensive list, there are tons of ballroom compilations.... ive got "strictly ballroom" which covers waltzes, foxtrots, quicksteps plus others - well worth getting!

All I'm going to say is - Ross Mitchell

there's a number of German CD labels which do great strict tempo versions of popular tunes....

OH! I have never thought about having Foxtrot and ballroom dancing music. So I would just panic. Only done one gig where that sort of music was needed so I paid my good old nan a visit and borrowed her CD's!

Living in the County of the living retired I use my Foxtrots/Quicksteps alot, must only have about 80 songs, but it does me.

Was looking through older case of CD's and have noticed I have got a few. But they are ones that came free with a paper for a few weeks

Do a search for Dance and Listen. They distribute cd's for ballroom dancing and they use Ross Mitchell
OK KARAOKE
I recently found a whole pile of "ballroom" style CDs in the charity shop around the corner. I got a 4cd box set, (Victor Sylvester I think), a 2cd set, "Sapphire in Sequence" and several individual discs. Got the lot for a tenner and so far haven`t found a duff track.

For standard Waltz, Fox-trot, Quickstep etc you can most likely find dozens of tracks which are already in your collection. For instance, Fairgound Attraction`s "Perfect" is a Quickstep... listen out for others of the same tempo.
You can apply this to a lot of stuff... listen to a Foxtrot, or a Tango, or whatever, and try and match it`s tempo with songs you already have. But...
Don`t try this if you are asked for Strict Tempo Sequence dancing. Make sure you have the right track for the Valetta, Paul Jones, Eightsome Reel and the like, as the number of bars per sequence is crucial. Play the wrong track and make sure your camcorder`s running for when they all fall over biggrin.gif
