Kylie on, dancefloor full, requests came in

Fringing in the rigging !!!

Ive noticed that alot of people will hold on to a request slip (all filled out) until they were going to come up and dance anyway.

Its not uncommon therefore, for requests to come in for
a style/genre of music thats very different to what youre playing at the time.

As for floor killers, as opposed to floor fillers, I dont think that theres any tune which is 100% guaranteed NEVER to clear a floor, even when the tune has been requested. Ive had nights where Kylie: cant get you outta my head, or Outkast: hey ya, Black box: ride on time, or even The Mavericks: Dance the night away...has cleared the floor.

If a dancefloor killer (emptier) isnt a particularly "classic" tune, and we've got alot of other requests to get thru, I'll usually announce my "30 second rule"...eg: I'll mention on-air that this was someones request, but obviously isnt proving to be that easy to dance to, so we'll be moving on to the next track in 30 seconds unless we get some people dancing to it.

The only exception to this is if theres alot of toe-tapping, finger strumming and/or singing along amongst "the seated ones", in which case, its a crowd pleaser so go with the flow.

I always say " I am really sorry but this track doesnt really fit in with what we are doing here so eventhough its a good track i cant play it ,so is there anything else you would like to hear that might fit ?" If this fails get them thrown out! 071.gif

Its only the very selfish few who EXPECT their request to go on immediately they give it to you... I just say "sorry I havent got that one" - if I know its a real killer and wont go down at all well with the crowd... or I just say that I will put it in when I am doing that particular style of music...... Its always better to tell these people that you will play it.... but just not yet....(if you cant get out of it by saying you dont have it)!

Try my excuse. If its a song that I think won't fit in, and unless is a special request and means something special to a wedding couple then I will come up with the following ::
Firstly I will say I'm not sure If I've got that track with me but I shall have a look for you, and if they come back and ask again I will apologise and say that i cant find it and offer to play an alternative track. And hope they dont ask for another ridiculous request, but most people tend to request songs at the most 2-3times a night.
Am I being out of order or is it a good idea ??
What you guys and Gals think ?? [I](notice I included the gals, noticed theres a few forum babes lol)

..far simpler just to say you dont have it in the first place..... you wont get the person p'd off because they have had to come back to you 2 or 3 more times!
