Hi im 17 years old and im looking to start DJing in a rock/metal band. I really need some advice on what starter deck pack i should get bear in mind i have a budget of about £200. So if anyone has advice on what decks i should get please help

Hi, welcome to the Forum.

A £200 limit isn't going to give you much choice in what you buy, well not New decks at least, although you may find some reasonable 2nd hand "branded" turntables if you spend some time looking around.

If you are looking for new turntables, then £200 will get you a pair of no frills belt drive turntables from Soundlab, or a Gemini / Kam "DJ in a box" type basic package. It wont get you anything Direct Drive or by Technics, Vestax, Citronic names etc.

I could offer you a very basic pair of Soundlab DLP1600 for around £135, these are belt drive (Hi-fi looking) and okay for home use or very light D.J use. I can also offer you a pair of Soundlab Direct Drive Turntables for around £239 / Pair but this is the sort of prices that Direct Drive turntables start from, and you will need D.D if you intend to mix / scratch with them.

Could i please have more information on the Soundlab Direct Drive Turntables. is the price just for the turntables or is that with the mixer as well?

Jimus I can tell you that the price was for the decks, to lookat a mixer aswell you are probably looking for another £200 plus speakers, microphone, CD players if you intend to use them etc etc.
Its certainly not a cheap business to get into!

Ok now i know the cost Implications. where can i start buying the decks, mixer etc. coz i live way down in cornwall, england where your lucky to get a post office let alone a music store

What can I say, lol Chris is your man even if its a bit at a time, its delivered to your door and he's always here if you have a problem. Come to that most of us are here a lot of the time!

Hey Mallard, looks like you really like linkin park (so do i ). I guess your making a band similiar to their setup? Like chris said, you should wait till you can get Direct Drive TTs.

Yeah when eventually when i get good enough and i can piece together a band i suppose we will have the same set up as Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit.... well sort of any way

Chris, off the subject somewhat but as you ship your goods do you ship overseas ? I have a package that needs to go to Greece and I wonder who you use ?
