Putting the argument for powered vs passive aside for a moment or two.

I'm after some powered subs to go with my mackie 450's.

I'm not keen on going down the road of the mackie subs as they're bloody heavy at 37kg or so.

My supplier is doing Skytech powered subs for a reasonable price and they weight about the same as my 450's, so not too bad.

Anyone else used the Skytech's?

Much appreciated.

Personally I would go with the matching subs, and although Skytec are pretty good, it is a little bit like have Caviar and tomato sauce
Chrispy
Yeah but for around 270 quid for a 400W RMS Active Cab, you can't go far wrong smile.gif

You wouldn't expect to get cavier for the same price as a packet of crisps, comparing like for like is okay providing the price is identical or at least similar. You would never get a High End cab for under 300 quid smile.gif

You can have my HZ Active cab (500w) for £350, all it needs is a fuse and holder, they are £800 new

Ordinarily I'd have said yes mackie subs shoudl go with mackie tops, however, good quality base is good quality base regardless isn't it? Or am I missing the point.

If the mackies came on casters I'd have probably gone with them lol

I was more thinking about issues with quality and reliability. As I've never used Skytech, just wanted to know if they're a respectable make or just a cheapo option like erm...cam?

You can buy caster Darren, fix them on the speakers yourself and BINGO !!

Your system is only as good as your weakest link in the chain. If you have a cheap Mixer or Amp, then you are never really going to get high end quality from your 1000 quid speakers!.

Equally using High end Cabs alongside medium priced ones is going to have you constantly comparing them!. Which as I have already pointed out, is unfair to compare medium priced equipment to High End Equipment, in a similar way to comparing a Jag to a Fiat Panda.

So your saying Skytech are designed for the budget market rather than just being at a damn good price?

Or if you buy his HZ, Andy may even put on some Castors for you smile.gif

I would say that Skytec Actives are destined for a mid ranged price bracket rather than a budget one. The RRP of them usually is 449 per cab, it's only down to the fact that Skytec have a June Promotion on, that you are getting them for well under 300 quid biggrin.gif . Next month - back up they go!.

Done !!

The HZ is lightweight anyway
Steve
Sorry havent used the Skytech Powered subs although I got my Mackie SWA1501 last week, used it for first time last Saturday evening.

Heavy.....yes but the sound and power was amazing. If you play at many venues without good trolley ramps then its a no go but luckily at my residency its easy access to the function room.

Let us know what you choose

Steve
