Hi,
I'm doing a wedding this weekend, bride is half Italian. Can anybody think of tunes people will know with an Italian connection? The best I've come up with so far is Mambo Italiano. Maybe I should remix the Cornetto adverts?
Cheers

Hi rdj104 - welcome to the forum.
You could add a couple of Ol' Blue eyes standards - but always check with the client for any unusual requests that could be asked for.
If you havn't done so already - contact the bride & groom just to reassure for the weekend, and, why not see if there are any last requests while you're on the phone!
Remember - even the half-Italians can be, shall we say ferocious when upset!!!!!!
But Enjoy yourself - don't worry too much.
Let us know how the function progressed in our weekend gig thread.

Theres Russell Watsons: Volare, which has everyone singing along on the one word they know, and a few "oh ohoh ohhhh"s.
"Volare means: To fly"
The whole song translates nicely into:
"Task that a dream therefore not returns never more: I painted the hands and the face of blue, then of unexpected I came from the kidnapped wind and I began to fly in the infinite sky... To fly... oh, oh!...to sing... oh, oh, oh, oh; in the blue, painting of blue happy for being lassù. And I flew, I flew more up happy of the sun and still more in on, while the world pian slowly disappeared far away laggiù, a sweet music only played for me... To fly... oh, oh!...to sing... oh, oh, oh, oh in the blue, painting of blue happy for being lassù. a sweet music only played for me To fly... oh, oh!...to sing... oh, oh, oh, oh in the blue, painting of blue happy for being lassù. a sweet music only played for me To fly... oh, oh!...to sing... oh, oh, oh, oh in the blue, painting of blue happy for being lassù.To fly... oh, oh!... to sing... oh, oh, oh, oh!"
On second thoughts, go for The Cornetto advert.

Ahhh,
They have requested a couple of Sinatra songs, I hadn't realised old Frank has Italian connections, that probably explains it.
Mikeeeeee, is
I PASSI CHE FACCIAMO the song by adriano celentano you were trying to spell?
Someone mentioned Bella Ciao, anyone know who that's by?
I've also realised Numero Uno by Starlight should go down well too.
I think the Fast Food Rockers can stay in their pizza box on this occasion.
I'll look up those other suggestions later, thanks everyone.
Cheers

You could also try asking 'Digital Discos', since he's posted here previously that he has Italian Connections.
I think that you should ascertain what sort of Italian Music is required first, most of the suggestions here are commerical tracks, whose group / singer is known to be Italian. I'm sure that in Italy they have their own local music culture, and it may be this which the client is looking for.
You could play Tom Jones, for a client who stipulates Welsh Music, and end up with egg on your face when you found out that they wanted some tracks from a Welsh Male Voice Choir! .

Or gently bring it in to the conversation that if they bring along any tracks they think you may not have and clearly mark them you will be only too happy to play them!!............ looks like you are being efficient and is always good for a tip at the end of the night when you return the CD's.

Euro Disco was also popular in Italy in the late 80's, early 90's. Stuff like:
Francesco Napoli-Balla Balla (which is a medley of well known Italian songs),
Tony Esposito-Papa Chico
Spagna-Call me
Sabrina-Boys boys boys (the one with the ahem, interesting video

)
DJ Lewel-Attenti A Lupo (he is one of the guys from Black box. The spelling may be wrong though!)
I seem to remember that Modern Talking were also popular. They were a German group that produced some of worst music in history!!
The stuff above will be popular with many people 30+, dunno whether younger people will like it though

Hi RDJ,
No it's definatly prisen-colon-afa-man-choo-so, it reads right but the spelling is wrong. I believe the chappy is still banging tunes out now.
I think it was around 1974, and as far as I know it was his only UK release.
Well I liked it - at the time

for slow stuff Eros or Laura Pausini's first two CDs classic stuff

Hi guys sorry for the not so quick reply. I am half Italian and I have about 20 cds, some with newer artists but I have a lot of the "real classics"
Do you know what sort of music is required? How old are the couple?
I will see what I have and ask my dad who is half Italian.

What I can do is pick out about 50 songs from each decade from 1960 for you? I will stick to the most popular ones. Ask them if they have any specific requests though first.
I also know a fewer newer ones, so of the popular tunes at the moment are:
A Chi Mi Dice- Blue
Dii tei Dragostea- Hai Duccii
Guardami Negli Ochi- Paulo Meneguzzi
Un tutti i miei giorni- RAF
but I am sure they won't want such current music. I will start compiling a few lists, if you want them?
BTW- Most Adriano Celentano songs go down well, he has quite a few of the "classic type songs".
