What was school like for you? Were you a respected DJ back then as you were now? Tell, and don't lie about it

I used to hate school, and I really do mean "Hate" with a passion

. I used to be wound up a lot by my friends because I was a D.J at 13/14 they just didn't believe me.
However, when I was 15, I managed to get a "Gig" at my High School. I think even the teachers were impressed, and the attitude of my peers changed overnight and I got a lot more, of what you youngsters call "Respect" from then onwards....just a shame it didn't happen a few years earlier!.
When I was at school, I think young teenagers were a lot less mature than they are now. These days most young people have some sort of part time occupation away from School and that being a D.J at that age is more acceptable than it was 15 years ago.

I loved school!!!!It was just the lessons & the teachers I didn't like.
The social side was great, lots of friends, lots of parties, school trips etc but they do say youth is wasted on the young!

Thats good, I think a lot of pressure is put on young people today to do well and with regard to Exams etc. All I would say is that as long as you do your best then nobody has the right to criticise you - whatever the result
.
I would advise the younger people on this board that you should aim for a career as well as D.J'ing and don't rely on the d.J'ing work when you leave school, as your sole employment!. However, if you continue on to College / Uni then D.J'ing is an ideal way to fund your way through, and also a good boost if you intend to go on to media / radio related occupations.
However if you do well as a D.J, and can do it full time then go for it, but it is also very important to have a career to fall back on, because you don't know what will happen in the future.

I think Shakespere was in dire need of a night out down the pub as he sat writing his sonnets and thinking "Ha those 21st century kids will never get their heads around this one!"
Eeek - you'll be calling me shorty!
