I just wanted to thank you all for the help and advice offered to me over the last six months. I had a gig last weekend and I decided to put into practice some of your advice - I went out into the crowd as they were arriving, sat down with the guests and asked them what they would like to hear.

I found this had a three-fold effect: it broke the ice between me and the audience, it helped the first part of the evening (which I usually find very boring) go much quicker and it gave me a list of about 40 songs to play over the whole night.

It was a great night, hot summer nights are so much better for parties than winter aren't they?

Thanks once more guys - I'm a step nearer to becoming the world's greatest living DJ !! laugh.gif

Firstly, well done !!! thumbup.gif

If your heart was racing just before you headed out into the audience to talk to them, dont worry...we all got that the first few times, I'm sure. That little feeling of panic will diminish quickly.

There are some downsides to hot, summery nights, but most of these are very dependant on the venue.

*) If the venue has no curtains, or very thin curtains up at the windows/skylights, the room will be very bright...oozing with daylight until 9:30++ mid-summer - making it difficult for you to create an atmosphere.

*) Guests may drift off outside from a hot venue.

*) Unloading/setting up on a hot day isnt nice. (personal gripe there). rolleyes.gif

Must admit the 24 hour daylight here makes creating an aptmosphere here fun! Nights are getting lighter here and its light till 11 already! BUT summer is best!
