I use it to edit mp3's, normalise the levels, add loops, delete spaces at the front/end of tracks I've converted from my old vinyl etc.
One problem I've found is that every now and then on an mp3 track, when you try to open it using:
"Files of type": "MPEG 3 (FhG)(*.mp3)"
in the "Show file information" it will show:
"Unknown headerless RAW data".
If you try to open such a track, a window will open asking:
"Interpret sample format as:"
with a list of sample rates from 192000 through to 6000, with the standard 44100 being highlighted/default,
it also asks what resolution is required, with the options being 8-bit, 16-bit & 32-bit (float).
The default is 44100 for sample rate & 16-bit, if you then press 'OK' on these settings, you are then taken to another window:
"Raw data (no header)"
"Data formatted as"
with the option of choosing the following:
16-bit intel PCM (LSB, MSB)
16-bit motorola PCM (LSB, MSB)
8-bit mu-Law compressed
8-bit A-Law compressed
the first one (intel) is highlighted. If you press OK again here the file then opens but is basically just a wall of sound, no peaks, no music, just noise.
I'm able to play these 'headerless' tracks on musicmatch, real player etc, so they are mp3's, but for some reason they don't have a header.
Hopefully some of this will have made a little sense to at least someone on here?!
If so, could you let me know is there a way to edit an mp3 file with 'headerless data'
Cheers,
Tone
