Congratilations - Happy Birthday Spin

I don't know where you get this illusion that you and the likes of Mikeee are old gits.
My dad as you may have read in my introduction used to run a disco when he was my age. He still comes along to "Help" out although I fear he just wants to relive his youth. His birthday is on the 1st of May, he'll be 49, but his knowledge of all the new releases isas good as most young folks. He can easily play a young demanding crowd at an 18th and want's me to set him up with his own rig again.

When is he going to fit thisin around his full time job.

The point is, you guys arent old, it's just everyone else setting up these days is much younger. I thought I wa young at almost 19 and I've been doing it for a few years, then I come on here and read about 12/13 year olds setting up.

I think the problem now is thats its to easy for anybody to set themselves up as a DJin this day and age. I had to work damn hard to get where I am today. Although this is great for the likes of Chris.

Anyway, enjoy your birthday.

Ross.

Yeah, i'm going to have to agree with you, on how almost anyone can basically get a kit...

I think that the "old" tag is more an affectionate term for two veteran members rather than a "Curl up and die" statement!, and like most banter on this board, should be taken as tongue in cheek and never out of context smile.gif . Basically Spin, Mikeee and DJ Trev are the oldest members on here...so far and when compared to 3rd Gen, Spike and DJ_Crooks - they are old(er).

One of the advantages of this board (I hope) is that we are very informal, and when reading posts its as if i've known some of the people for a long time - when I have never met them and only posted alongside them for days rather than years. I suppose that this is why the majority of them have been in the business for so long.

Chris,

I couldn't agree with you more. As you will be aware I've only been on the board since the 23 and didnt post till a couple of days ago. But when I did it already felt as if I knew most of the people who I was replying to or replied to my posts. That'll be cos for the first few days I sat and read almost the entire forum!!

Thanks Ross, its a sad fact of life that as you get older the birthdays seem to whizz past and people do genuinely forget, all bar family and close friends. However today as a result of this board (thanks Chris) I have had more 'happy birthdays' than for a long time.

If only we were all closer I would definitely get a round in, but at the end of the day its the thought that counts, that and my new found circle of 'friends' right here!!

Chrispy
Certainly you can learn a lot about a person, and their humour from reading their posts, certainly it takes more effort, imagination than if you maybe met them for the first time at a gig or an exhibition, and I often wonder how many people will forge friendships on a personal level from chatting of this forum. Certainly Mikeee attending Spins Birthday drink tonight is the perfect example of this smile.gif

Certainly from a Guests point of view some of the posts would come across as being backbiting or just insulting, and I know that we have had one instance of a new member posting defensively in response to some harmless banter - which after all is part of our business. luckily this sort of response is in the minority and if this is your first visit to the forum, I would ask that you take some time to read earlier threads and you will find that not only is this board informative, but also informal!.

Don't worry Chris I'm sure we can toast the new forum too....... or discuss our next plan of action to keep 'admin' under control tongue.gif

Isn't that just an excuse for another round of Drinks or Several?. Is Mikeee still dropping in on you tonight?.

If I don't catch you again before you go - have a good 'un pepsi.gif

Hopefully I will be there, I just don't know what time, due to the local council changing their meeting time from 5.00pm to 7.00pm, and I've gotta be there. sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif

Arghh how sweet we all are to each other i feel a bit left out being right down here in weston-super mare 014.gif am i the only south-west mobile jockey on here? never mind, do most of you have people with you on your gigs ? I often work on my own and find it quiet lonely having to cart all my gigs to and from venues it would be nice for someone else who has a love for djing to help out (GOD IM SOUNDING SO SAD) sterb188.gif

So get on the board and ask for help in the right section of course! There are numerous young budding DJ's who would love to lug stuff in return for learning the trade. My roadie is 23 drives aswell and does it cos he enjoys it (won't take payment) I'm sure if you ask lonely nights will be a thing of the past!
