Hi guys, i am after some help again. As some of you know i teach and as mentioned before i am doing a dj course for 19 kids at the school. On tuesday 17th i have 3 hours for the next part of the dj course but because of various reasons hands on djing is not possible this time. I have however been given a room with 14 computers hooked up to the internet. What i need are good web site addresses within the music\dj\equipment manufacturers \record company\fashion \club`\software etc etc that would be benificial to these kids.I know that this forum is the best place for them BUT i dont want them on here as they are not all positive and they would probably learn too much about me! So if you know any good sites that you can recommend then please let me know. But please abide by the rules of the forum and do not post any sites that compete with Congleton Sound and Lighting.Thanx Chris S PS Am particularly interested in both real time players and these make your own music sites?

What youve got there is RESOURCE.....l
Get them to track down the REAL and current answer to the legalities of making a backup copy of a vinyl or cd single, onto a laptop, or compilation CDR...
or the record companies (and stores) plans for vinyl extinction...
or...the benefits of PLI, PAT and such like

Chris, I think Gary's idea is a great one. Let them show their initiative and resourcefullness. If any of them aren't familiar with the net then give them a guiding hand, but don't just supply them with loads of links, let them use their brains to find things themselves.

...and ask them all to use different search engines, for a bit of variety...

What ages are these "younger ones"?
How about giving them a scenario.... like....
"Your older sister is getting married in a year and wants YOU to do her wedding reception.
You have a similar music taste to your sister and her friends, have loads of CDs and are outgoing, and have talked about wanting to be a DJ, but have no DJ equipment. Your sister has offered to GIVE you £500 towards the gear and LOAN you a further £500 to be paid back to her "as and when" after the wedding...
With "get you started" funding and your first gig booking already "in the bag" discuss and document how you can turn your dream into reality."
After theyve got the idea...get them to choose 3 problems from the following...
The venue has low ceilings, only a single 13amp power socket, poor road access, a smoke detector, a clockwatching caretaker/janitor, a noise limiter, hall lights that are either "all off" or "all on maximum", toilets so far away from the disco that youd never make it there and back by the time the next track is due on...etc etc etc

Do they have 13 Amp Power Outlets in Norway??.

- if not that'll confuse the little..................Rascals, for a start.

.
I like Gary's idea (more so in that I don't have to do any research

)
Maybe if you don't want to give them access and learn the dirty about their Teacher and the infamous Video

, then why not print topics that you have selected and feel may be beneficial- the forum is printer friendly and the option is on every thread.
You could perhaps print out a few "questions" that have been asked here in the past without the replies, and then get them to write / type their own response to each question without having access the forum - a sort of virtual, virtual forum - based on actual questions and topics which occur here frequently?.
I still can't see Chris as a teacher - he doesn't strike me as the sort to wear a brown jacket, tweed chunky cardigan, and kipper tie

I am not that kind of a teacher, i am a freelancer which means if kids have problems ,learning or behavior, violent or handicapped then i get called in for alternative lessons. I teach oral English and french occasionaly, take them horse riding, swimming ,fitness centre, film making ,trial bike riding,Drama,photography,mechanics,Basketball\football,dance,rock climbing, sailing canoeing. ( of course using qualified instructors aswell) we do tend to teach kids using things they are interested in,there are no school uniforms and teachers wear what they wish. I work with the social services and the local childrens home so i normaly have about 5 kids i am working with and i pretty much do what i like.I have all school holidays off with pay and am a very lucky guy!

If not, there'll be detentions?
I wonder how many will be surprised to discover that the act of downloading an mp3 isnt INSTANTLY illegal, and doesnt instantly mean "low quality".
Infortunately, legal and high quality downloads are rarely free though.
