How much

And where do you get them from.
Chrispy
What sort of CD Subscription are you looking for?
3rd Generation Discos
Maybe mastermix. but basicly just a cheap and quick way to build up my cd collection.
Chrispy
As far as DJ compilations go, there is no such thing as a Cheap way of building up your collection really.

IMHO, Mastermix are the best collection(s) to start with, what sort of music are you looking for?, is it latest stuff or stocking up on the oldies for those Private functions?.

If you are looking for the classic stuff, then the Mastermix Box sets are a good place to start. I would start with buying the 60's and 70's Box sets, which both consist of a 4 cd compilation set. you won't get every track from these era's but you will get some of the more D.J based popular ones smile.gif and it will at least give you a running start.

After the box sets then look at the "Classic Cuts" compilations - especially the "Party", "Soul" and perhaps some of the "Disco" ones. You are not going to get an entire collection overnight, but we will be happy to point in in the right direction, with which cd's of the series to buy first. Also have a look at the other "Playlist" Threads to get a good idea.

The Mastermix website isHERE

From reading your posts if i'm really honest with you 3G, then I think you do need to spend some money on building up your cd collection first, before buying more equipment smile.gif . (This is why I'm a D.J first and salesman second sad.gif - LOL)

If you need some idea on what to buy from MM first with regard to the compilations then let us know!.

YEah I do nead Advice.

I have got over 15k of tracks on my home p.c. which are varied genres. But it looks like i'm not gonna be allowed to steal my dads pc for events.
I have got a mp3 player 10gb full to the brim.

ANd so if i'm not going to be able to use my pc for the GIG thats coming up i thought i might put my sony cd player to use.
This is a young persons party and so i will looking for dance music and hits.

Cheers
Chrispy
O.K with regard to doing a Young Persons party you obviously won't need much from the Mastermix archives smile.gif - although you will need to consider quite a few purchases from Mastermix in order to cover all ages for functions in the future. maybe Dad will also have some music from other era's that you can borrow when you do come to do private functions? smile.gif

The problem with getting new, pre release dance and chart music is that you need to subscribe to DMC. Which means you committing to paying £15 - £20 per month for the CD. This may not be a problem for working D.J's, but it might be for somebody just starting out, who may not have the bookings YET, to cover the expense and justify the monthly subscription.

If you need to update your collection with current chart and Ex-chart music then a good idea would be to try and stock up wit some of the old "Now" and "Hits" style compilations. 2 or 3 would give you around 80 - 100 tracks from the alst 12 months or so. Another good CD compilation for dance music are the "Clubland" 1 and 2 dance compilations, which should be available from HMV, Woolies etc smile.gif

If you have a CDRW why not burn some of your tracks from the MP3 player onto audio CD then you can toggle between MP3 Player and CD Player seamlessly!.

If you need any more help just ask

I can afford A subcription if its £15-20 a month but any more expensive and i can't afford.
Chrispy
Okay, if thats okay then you can subscribe to one of the DMC Pre-release discs and pay by monthly standing order - You will need to get a parent / guardian to sign the mandate, but you should be able to set it up from your own bank account.

Excuse me for my stupidity but where do you subcribe to the pre release discs.
Chrispy
Call them on 01628 667124 and they'll send you the membership application (Free) and your direct debit paperwork
The Spindoctor
I don't suppose Chris that this means if I order the monthly Mastermix through you that I would get it cheaper than direct from them. (Unless like a 100 of us do it)
Chrispy
Well it wouldn't need to be 100 of us - 15 or 20 would be a good starting point - obviously the more members that got involved the more money each person would save.

The situation is this, most of my local customers use MP3's right or wrong, it's common knowledge in this area. However I have been approached to become a distributor, and also now have some very limited demand from one or two locals.

To deal with DMC etc you need to order in bulk, not of the same titles, but to meet a minimum order value. The dealer mark up on these disc's is also in single figures, so any discount has to be offered to you in quantities to make it worth my while - however if 30 each people bought three discs it will reduce the disc price to you. Obviously the more people that order the more money we'll all save - a consortium type thing.

It's had no interest amongst the membership and to be honest after postage i'd be making very little out of it so for now i'll just push the information to DMC / Mastermix Direct. However as the membership numbers increase we can perhaps look at it again smile.gif

Interesting that Mastermix haven't replied to my emails regarding some "deals" for D.J's on this forum - I would have expected more from a UK company that started from nothing all those years ago. Even more interesting is that i've just come from another unrelated site where the Entire mastermix collection is selling for £50 - over 100 discs in MP3 format. LOL maybe I should link to them out of spite 221.gif
The Spindoctor
Well ok I'm not one to abuse my new position (much wink.gif ) but if any body at all has a double of 125 or a copy that they don't need, I'm willing to pay a good price for that one to complete my entire set!
DJ Spinko
Chris,
I'm not surprised Mastermix haven't replied, they are absolutely hopeless with emails, I sent them a shedfull in trying to subscribe to the Monthly Pro-Disc and in the end I had to ring them.
Even worse was to follow when I found that subscription from them was going to cost £16.75 per month inc p&p, but the same subscription from a certain dealer in Nottingham, was available at £14.25 per month inc p&p !!!
Sometimes one wonders ...
Cris
