The Soundlab DJ-10 mixer is excellent for the price of £79.99. I bought one from Chris. Very pleased. It's very well built and has a host of features listed below. I've ammended Chris's original list to add extra functions not listed on his list.
In my opinion the best priced/featured mixer on the market.

*4 Input channels each with its own overall Gain Control
*2 Channels Switchable "Phono / line" for Turntables
*2 Dedicated Mic Inputs each with Gain Control
*Bass & Treble control on Mic Input
*Auto & Manual talk over Mic function
*Effects send circuit
*Variable AVO (Voice Overide) on Mic channels
*Combo XLR / Jack on DJ Mic Input
*Assignable X-Fader
*Split Cue on PFL Monitor
*Dedicated Master, Booth & Record Outputs (Phono)
*Balanced XLR Line Output (Master)
*5 Band EQ on Music Output
*Twin 12 LED VU Level display
*BNC Lamp Socket

Thanks for the advertising Peter thumbup.gif. The Soundlab DJ-10 is excellent value for money, very few mixers have these sort of features for way below the £100 mark.

For anybody who is interested, I still have a few left.

Hm, Everyone talk's bad about Kam, I've never used anything from them, However I'll be shure to take everyone's word!

But, Also people talk bad about Pyle Pro?
I use their Mixer, CD Player, Amp, And even got 2 of their speaker's.

*Cough* The speaker's aren't that great. But they are the only "small" speaker's I have.

What do you all think of Pyle Pro? I can't say that they are good. But, I can't say their bad.

Got a kam twin cd player once kept it about a week got shot of it & got a denon 2500 to replace it. The denon cost about £900 more + I lost £50 on the kam just to get shot of it. I've got two cloud DM 1200's a denon & citronic mixer. If I was buying another mixer I'd buy a pioneer.

I had a Kam mixer for 3 days (friday to sunday) then took it back to the shop.

I ended up having a real long row with Lamba about their product.

For the amount of use this type of product is marketed / aimed at, Kam gear, in my opinion (except for the mics) are not very good.

One man's meat...eh?!

The Pioneer mixer (DJM600) has has a few years out now with no real competition. Thats about to change in the next 4~6 weeks. If you were looking at the DJM-600, padlock your wallet for a month...Full in-depth review on DJU soon - watch this space...{ } huh.gif

We opted to buy the Kam AudioPRO 1500, we paid a little bit more than your budget, only a few pounds!

We have not had a single problem with the system, we use all 4 channels and have used all 3 of the microphone channels.

We use 2 channels for our Numark CD player and the other 2 are used for our Laptop and Karaoke.

Overall very impressive kit for the money. biggrin.gif

I just bought a Soundlab Fission (mainly because it can do video) and it seems ok.

So I'll jump on the band wagon and say buy one, A Sound lab I mean, failing that [I haven't read the rules] make a reasonable budget mixer...

If i can say that baaasmiley.gif

I have a KAM mixer. I've had it 7 years and nothing has happened to it! Now I've said this i can't wait to see what happens tonight! fear.gif

Is KAM one of those manufacturers that started out making quality stuff, then either after management changes or aquisition by others started cost saving at the expense of quality and reliability?
Chrispy
I didn't know that Kam had started making quality stuff!.

With regard to talk of manufacturing quality this is a very good point. Most manufacturers today have taken the Dyson approach and moved their production to the far east in order to cut costs and remain competitive. Sadly as a consequence of this, quality can sometimes suffer. From experience I saw a slight increase in the number of returns of NJD Products when production moved from Nottingham to India, they've got it sorted out, but it does show how the rush to remain competitive can cause issues.

If you want to be patriotic to the UK, its getting harder to do so, and choice is limited. Constella are the only company where the majority of their lighting is still 100% British Built and Assembled. I think that you would struggle to find a mixer manufacturer who could say the same, although I have no idea whether Citronic is purely assembled here, or built and assembled.....and they aren't telling rolleyes.gif .

I will agree that with any electrical / mechanical product - you take your chances with the reliability, its just that I had a nasty experience with two of their products personally, and also a higher returns rate than you would find acceptable as a dealer.

We bought the KAM on recommendation from a Club DJ, he'd had one for 10 years and had to replace it because it was full of cigarette ash!

He bought the one we did and had been using it for 12 months no problems.
misterbassman
Thanks for all the advice,
I found a citronic SM450 going cheap second hand so I ended up going for that.

Most Citronic products are now imported from the far east. Nothing made in UK as far as I am aware. nono.gif

Whats wrong with KAM??

I use a KAM mixer here in Newcastle, 4 nights a week (its the venue's own one) and it works great! biggrin.gif

Yes, its a shame Kingy. I started off, and progressed through several Citronics the SM450, the massive SM650, the 10:4 etc... and I used to enjoy the drop-in and collect same day service (book in 1 week in advance by phone) that you used to be able to get at Citronics repair/manufacturing unit in Melksham.

Maybe this is one of Kams newer, better designed, better built mixers.

I was trying to suggest a few weeks ago that maybe people should give Kam (as they and their products are in 2004) rather than keep thinking of Kam as they and their products were in 2000, 1995, 1990 etc...

Perhaps we can inform peoples perceptions of Kam, one model at a time.

Next time you're there, could you jot the model number down and post it here?

i'm a great fan of citronic and owned more than one of their products over the years. chris do you have any of the DJ10 mixers left
YourBigEvent
I always try and buy British, hence the Constella lighting and controllers, and the HZ speakers. I drive a Vauxhall (British company, made in Spain) However this is getting hard to do, can't even think of any British mixers.

And in my 'normal' life it is really hard to find anything British I have a French car, have a Japenese mobile, Swiss watch and a Danish wife.
DJPLEASURE
Behringer make some quality mixers at low costs, in a lot of cases they are replica's of much higher end mixers at a lower cost.
I have in the past used Everything from Realistic & Soundlab through to Numark, but my current Behringer is the best I have owned to date.
transeurope
This is a small point and OT, but surely it is perhaps better to own a Toyota or Nissan made in Britain rather than a Vauxhall (really American owned) made in Spain if you want to support British industry? A company that can maximise the skills of British workers surely helps British industry more than a company which can only make money by adandoning its (once) native turf?

Anyway, back On Topic, aren't Allen & Heath still made in Britain? They are great mixers, but in this tricky world of "designed and engineered" style badging I am not sure off the top of my head. I am very suspicious of their new slogan "born in the UK" ....but raised elsewhere perhaps?

If you want to stick with Europe in general, I know for a fact that all Tascam mixers are made in the EU and they are great mixers.

On a related topic, I just finished reading an article on Dyson's move to Malaysia. The cost of manufacturing there is a full 75% of the cost in manufacturing in the UK (not as many imagine something like one-tenth). However because mass manufacturing implies selling the first, say, 100 units to break even and making pure profit on, say, the last ten sold their profits have trebled since the move. It seems very sad to me to lose an established industrial base over a lousy 25% differential. ranting.gif
