Bit of an over-reaction don't you think?

While I don't know Dave personally, i've been a member here nearly 2 years and have always found his posts informative and often very funny.

I think you are mistaking "humour" for "racism"
bigMCben
I've never met the chap personally, but he's popular at wedding receptions.

Not sure if some might consider this comment 'racist', but clueless Americans attempting this normally give you the best laugh, particularly if the couple behind them are quite good and they keep getting in their way.

Is this a wind-up?

Gay Gordons and similar will be found on ballroom/Scottish dancing compilations.
superstardeejay
I thought the Gay Gordons was one of those mainstays of NYE and Christmas parties everywhere...we were taught these dances at school on the run-up to the Christmas Party (late 80's) in place of games lessons so we would know how to dance on the night. Don't they do that now? What are they teaching these days??? ;-)
Robster
I think you'll find its legal tender
Norfolk DJ

A classic track, which is a 'must play' on New Years Eve and occasionaly played at weddings if there is any connection with Scotland.

Easy Tiger - Seriously didnt even know it was a classic from north of the border so absolute no harm meant...and sincere apologies if was taken that way. Said i was ignorant and my pun was more to do with the un-politicalcorrectness of the term Gay Gordon.

Not a wind up either spinner!

I have never encounter scottish ball room dance music (now i know its origins) some may say i've lead a sheltered life, its just never come to light in the past. We never did that kind of thing at school that i can remeber and we certainly dont teach it these days round here.

Live and learn. Off to ebay!

Cheers

Neither have I, it's the sort of thing they'd do around here at a barn dance or dinner dance as a lighthearted rather than serious dance....and by round here I mean West Midlands! Im very suprised you haven't heard of it.

It's a dance, BTW, not a track. You can do the gay gordons to several tunes.

OH NO!!! I'd just about forgotton that and you've now made all these memories come flooding back. There were never enough girls so occassionally you had to dance with another boy, but obviously one of you had to be the 'girl' and even if you were lucky enough to dance with a girl, she was usually a minger, as all the good-looking boys had already snapped up the good-looking girls.

This probably isn't done anymore as it's probably consider a form of torture and that's not allowed under the Human Rights Act.

Oooh the memories. I'm away for a lie down. MATRON...............
superstardeejay
If we didnt have enough girls we would raid the canteen for dinner ladies to make up the numbers. We never danced boy-on-boy, as it were. We left that for rugby....
Robster
not something i have come across knew in the back of my mind what it was but never been asked for it as a dj and too wouldn't know what to play.

spinner
A Jimmy Shand collection should have a few appropriate tracks.

Country dancing fella, not ballroom. My reply was a thinly veiled wind up at being offended by it. thumbup.gif

Like has been mentioned a Jimmy Shand compilation will tell you what type of dance the track is suitable for i.e a Dashing white sergeant, a strip the willow, a canadian barn dance or the Gay Gordons. If any of you in Englandshire get asked for any of them, just say well you better know how to dance to it, cos trying to explain them will take you all night biggrin.gif

Out of interest if I get asked for something that people can Morris Dance to what should I play? kid.gif
spinner
There is a website with a list of music that can be used for Morris dancing.

A lot of it is surprisingly modern.
