Hello,
I cant remember whether i asked this before so i will ask it again.
I am planning a few upgrades for this year and i am planning to get
Gemini pmx 1400 mixer
Dare audio v800 amp
a flightcase to house it all
i cant decide whether to have a flightcase for the mixer and twin cd player then a separate 2u rack for the amp or have the whole lot in one big case.
Then i want to replace my existing t-bars with a new dj stand.
I was thinking of getting the girraffe g53 4ft double crossbar stand, Has anyone got one of these, are they good. arwe they strong and stable.
I wont bother posting about my lighting upgrades as it will be a year before I even bother buying.

Depend how strong you are, I would have a separate case for my amp(s) and keep the CD's and mixer all plugged in in another.
Don't know anything about the stand you want

The above reply makes a totally valid point...weight.
I got a custom flightcase made by a company who came out to measure all the gear, even down to height of the control knobs etc.
I was delighted with the case, but once I loaded it, it was much heavier than Id imagined. Part of the problem was that the flightcase was (obviously) bigger than the individual bits.
I had "lift~tested" all the gear beforehand to make sure I could lift it, but its always easier (and recommended) to hold objects close to your body when lifting. This, together with unevenly balanced gear locations within the flightcase, can all make it awkward to move.
Considering that you dont want to have to lump and bump your gear around roughly, it might be best to leave the amplifier out of the flightcase, for both weight and heat reasons..

Hi,
I think i will go along with what you said and have my cd player and mixer inn one flight case and another v2u rack case for my amp.
Is there such thing as skytronic trussing. I was looking for trussing with two stands then but a girraffe 4 ft stand without the lighting bar because I hate the way the bar is directly overhead and not infront of the sound setup. Als trussing will leave more space for more lights
I was thinking of triangle type trussing about 3m long.

I once considered casing mixer, cd dex and amp in 1 case, which in theory is great but, as said the weight will probably be too much in the long run...
Also consider if you just need to take your cd dex and mixer to a gig. I occasionally plug straight into a bands PA if we are pushed for space at the hotel so lugging an amp around isn't neccesary. With upgrades aswell you may find if you buy another amp it may be 3u and wont fit the case anyway.

I have my Twin Cd decks and 19" housed in a Flight case which can take Twin CD players, Mixer plus an amp.
I concidered having my amp in there aswell instead of in its seperate flight case as there is space but I have decided that it is not such a good idea because I can only just lift the Twin CD players and Mixer in the flight case and I don't want to do myself or the gear an injury
I already use a trolley sack barrow thingy to wheel heavy stuff into venues if there is enough access and no steps but I think that if I added anything else to the case I don't think I would be able to lift it onto the deck stand safely.

Hi,
I have heard from loads of people that it is really heavy with the whole lot in so i think i will separate them.
does anyone have the skytec trussing, what do u think of it.

I have never used the Skytec trussing system, but I have used a giraffe stand with the lighting bar directly overhead...
In fact its what I use at the moment most weekends.. I like the fact that the lights are above you... I have a 6ft stand plus a 4ft stand, each with the lighting above because it enables you to control who can get to them.. With what you say of wanting the lights infront of the sound setup you are leaving yourself open to possible claims on the PLI as people can then hit their heads on the lights/burn themselves whilst coming up to ask you for a request etc
I have seperate lighting goalpost systems but never take them, opting really to use the giraffe stand... I wouldnt dismiss it straight away!
Another thing, one of the other Djs on this site got his stand tailor made by the local blacksmiths/metalwork shop... Made to his specs and all for only £60... Maybe worth a call!!

Never heard of that trussing... We use astralite... which is really light! You could get some lengths of this and configure it how you want.... you dont have to buy the legs, you could always put a couple of lengths up on power drive stands.

Hi,
I dont use powerdrives I use 2 330 t-bars u get from Congleton Sound & Lighting at the moment.
The skytec trussing holds about 120kg and is up to 3m long, it is the proper triangular type and is usually priced at around £99 incuding 3m of trussing and 2 stands that go max. 3m high.

seems like a good deal.. if it is suitable for what you are hoping to use it for.. go for it!

If you use the same powerdrives as we use Kazza then I can only lift them and walk them a short distance.
If you are on a budget, just buy a stand and a 4' bar and stick them on there with a standmate
