I have been asked to help a club which has been rebuilt after being shut for 3 years.(Eskie worked it in 1989 and it was called Joes Garage). They are turning it in to a smart gig with an age range from 23-40.Now i thought i was going to be able to just sit down and sort out a music policy but i am struggling and have decided to see if you guys could help me with some music tips. What i was looking at doing was going for the soul\funk\disco route and adding a bit of chart stuff. I was thinking about James Brown, kool and the gang, earth wind and fire type stuff as well as Soul to soul, loose ends etc and dee lite, stereo mcs etc etc.I was hoping that if people posted some tracks they recommend that it would help me a lot.Thanx in advance! biggrin.gif

Soul / Funk are two genres of music rarely played 'round these parts, unlike the South where it thrives. I've attempted to educate audiences before, where I thought it would work and its cleared the dancefloor 533.gif . So I don't feel qualified enough to answer this post, but have made "A" post to let you know that i've read it and would help if I could.

As for Disco -

Rose Royce - Car Wash
Barry White -Can't Get Enough of Your Love
Diana Ross - Upside Down
Van McCoy - The Hustle
Anita Ward - Ring My Bell
Sister Sledge -We Are Family
Lipps Inc - Funkytown
Thelma Houston - Don't Leave Me This Way
Yvonne Elliman - If I Can't Have You
Bee Gees - Night Fever
Alicia Bridges - I Love the Nightlife
Edwin Starr - Contact
Donna Summer - Hot Stuff
The Trammps - Disco Inferno

Hi CS

Just a thought. You mentioned "Soul to soul, loose ends, dee lite, stereo mcs etc".

Why not have an 'OLD SKOOL NIGHT' of late 80's and early 90's (Decadance)
to appease the clients who like the 'diverse' end of the music spectrum.
What a variety!

Just a thought.

We used to play this track when I worked at the club years ago, cos of course this is where the club got it's name from.
Chris,
I know that you have a pretty big collection which includes a fair bit of soul, and you have a far better idea than anyone on here of what the Norwegians like and dislike. It's all very well us banging out names of tracks/bands that work here in the UK, but we both know that the Noggies can be a little weird sometimes and some great music will clear the floor over there and vice-versa some absolute crap will go down a storm... I mean "Dance With A Stranger"! wacko.gif ...I rest my case (the rest of you who are wondering what the hell I'm on about; this was a Norwegian band in the 80's who were huge. Their lead singer was ace at doing Joe Cocker impersonations!
You mentioned Loose Ends; I remember that they were never very popular over there years ago and neither was Keith Sweat or Luther V for example, while Bobby Brown & Soul II Soul were huge.
I'd say the only way you're gonna find out is by experimenting and also playing what you know does work... the Blues Brothers for example rolleyes.gif
If anyone knows the Bodo music scene it's you. Go for it, you'll have em all dancing on the table as per normal... just take a few more chances musically thumbup.gif
kazzachi
..perhaps thats why it took us some time to respond eh! But then again, he did ask!
C.S
Thanx for all your efforts and as eskie says i do know the scene here but i felt i needed some imput that would inspire me a bit as i dont want to do the same old thing .Now your posts have been most helpful so far and some of the cds you named i already have BUT and this is a problem ,i am struggling with the 90s stuff.Rest assured the lists so far are most usefull and esk, loose ends-hangin on a string was huge here. I wont only be doing the soul\funk route but i just wanted to try and do something different for once! Paula thanx for the support,i think a lot of the regs have been busy this weekend and thats why i didnt get replies earlier. biggrin.gif
Chrispy
With regards to post's, I think sometimes, if they are made at busy times then they have a tendency to get pushed off the visible part of the forum before everybody gets the chance to read it smile.gif .

Like dancefloors at functions, when nobody wants to be the first on there, the same can apply to post's. Sometimes all they need is one person to make the effort or ^^^Bumping^^^ back up to the top of the list.
