A non DJ forum that I am a member of, has been using this idea for some time with varying levels of success. The idea is, that we get together and "group buy" certain products in order to make a bulk buy saving by pooling together our resources.

Nobody makes any profit from it, the idea is that by having several members purchase together from one supplier will enable everybody to share the savings.

This other forum, has group buy products ranging from blank CDR's to Computer Equipment, software, Books, Games. Perhaps we could find a CD Retailer willing to participate?. Equally this could be used for other ideas such as business printing (Anybody need any business cards??).

I could also nominate a Group Buy day for CSL, nominating a date on the forum, every now and again, whereby any DJU members who place any order with me during that particular day can take advantage of an even larger discount! rolleyes.gif .

Any thoughts on this?.

Good idea! We'll have to have a chocolate buying day for Paula....

How about a repeating schedule - eg: CDR's on the first week of every other month, music CD's on the 2nd week of every other month, etc...
paula
Is this like a day out, where we all go shopping together? tongue.gif

Well, if there was enough interest, I could have an occasional promotion for a CSL "Group Buy Day" - as mentioned above, whereby one day was set aside for a further discount on purchases - for instance all purchases made during one nominated day - received a further discount.

Since my own discount structure often revolves around my own spend with a particular manufacturer / supplier, these group buys could even by manufacturer based - such as a group buy day for Denon, Constella, Abstract etc smile.gif . These would only happen occasionally - rather like the Eay Free listing days biggrin.gif , but would enable prices to be reduced for everybody if orders were placed at the same time.

Whether, a group buy for non DJ related items would work or not depends largely on your committment, and I do have mixed feelings on how well it will work - hence this post. Of course we have to get the attentions of the company in question and ask if they are willing to offer a group discount in the first place. It works on a PC related forum - but then again they have 15,000 members! scared.gif .

Certainly DJ related group buys could be implemented in the future - depending on your feedback and the amount of support the idea gets, and the discount everybody gets would go up or down depending on the amount of orders received in that day. If two people order the discount would be small, but if 5 people ordered, a bigger discount would be shared, it's all relative.

Yes, Lamps and consumables could also be considered - although £2.89 for the 300 hour ELC lamp version (in Qty's of 30), is already considered a good price especially as some high street retailers still sell the standard version for £7+!! smile.gif So you'd need to get orders between you totalling 1000+ to make any further discount appear and somehow I can't see that happening, at least not yet.

Unless KAM starting making lighting effects, then it would probably need a new bulb every gig !

Cheap light weight steel stands and tubular cross bar (3 sections)
Nylon type black material (looks fine in the dark) Has velcro straps to tie onto cross bar and stands so it is fairly quick & easy to set up
very bright white almost blue leds which the controller allows you to set a flash or constant setting
It all breaks down into an over shoulder carry bag (stands, cross bar, cloth & controller)
Easy set up
We do have a conventional star cloth which is very heavy and needs a substantial cross bar and is a pig to put up. These new ones are much easier and for bigger gigs if two or three of the lads have tem we can put two or three up which would look good
YourBigEvent
Sounds good, Chris will start to source these soon !!

I'd be intrested in a light starcloth
partychris
star cloth !! im interested.. biggrin.gif

Unfortunately ProLight are one of those narrow minded companies who sell through their own hand picked retailers, and who have no time for mail order distributors. So in other words - Sorry no discount here!.
Ian Stuart
This does indeed sound like a very good idea. I look forward to seeing how it developes
