Yep Me Again!

I currently own a Shure Beta 58a microphone that I am more than happy with, however I have found it nessesary to purchase two XLR terminal phantom powered LED lights to light up my Behringer 1832FX mixer and laptops when I am performing.

So my question is this, I purchased these lights without considering that the microphone will be plugged into a seperate XLR input when they are in use so if I were to turn on the phantom power whilst the microphone was connected would it cause any damage to it or the mixer?

Or would I be likely to experience feedback or interferance problems with this setup?

I know the simple answer would be to try it but I have no desire to blow up or damage perfectly good equipment if I am wrong! sad.gif

Any help is urgently and gratefully received as I have a gig on Friday evening where the client would now like me to sing live for them as well as DJ! scared.gif

Hmmn, I think phantom power is switched on all mic inputs, 48v accross your Shure SM58 could get potentially fried.. :/

(Someone else correct me if I'm wrong!)

It makes no difference I regularly use both condenser mics(48v phantom powered) and the normal dynamic mics (not powered) through my desk with the phantom power switched on, it will not affect your sound or damage your kit, this is standard practise on all desks.

Even though its not particularly recommended to send 48v to equipment that doesn't need it, it shouldn't cause any real damage to the microphone or the mixer. However, make sure you have switched it on before powering your system up, as it will fire a loud pop across your rig if phantom is selected whilst rig is live.

Yep agree with the last 2 posts, dont switch the 48V on/off with the master faded up or else your sound will go POP, otherwise ok to plug in most corded mics to phantom power. Dont do it with a radio mic, it may or may not cope.

Make doubly 'shure' your mic leads are wired correctly and in good condition or you may get scorched lips if the 48V were to be connected to the grille !!
