Has anybody got one of these. Im putting together a small t'bar rig for smaller venues and plan on having 2 datamoons and a dynatwin in the middle. My 4' giraffe rig is compact in itself but looks a bit ott in some of my usual venues and is not always easy to get in. Also since going active i want something a bit more sturdy (to much wobble on the giraffe overhead)
I have 2 250w dynamo scanners and like them but was wondering if the twin version is Ok. do the 2 effects work independantly or do they do the same together. also do they have 2 fans as the 250w ers do get hot
cheers for any info

Hi Dave
I have a Dynaroll that is similar to the dynatwin the only difference is that it has mirrors on barrels rather than flat single lenses.
It is controlled by a CA-8 unit and the two lenses I find on only one setting do they run both together in sinc but they will only do the one pattern and it's rather dull, so I tend to leave it on random and let them do their own thing seperately.
I do find the fan can be noisy at times esecially if it is on standby whilst someone stands next to the rig to do a speech or somethng along those lines, so I only use it when I know that is unlikely to happen.
Although I must add that one lenses always seems to be in focus and the other not despite fiddling about with the lenses, and that one of the lights tends to throw its light better and farther than the other!

I don't know why it just does!
It is quite a heavy unit but does give off a good display.
Hope this helps

Hi Dave,
I've got 2 DynaTwins and a DynaRoll.
From memory, both units are pretty much identical - single fan, 2 lamps (and then independent optics and control)
They do get warm, but 500W @12V is a fair amount of power.
The fan does a good job IMO, and I run them mainly all night.
As you know, I run the DynaRoll in the middle, and normally DMX this for 1st dances - no need for fancy chases, just a simple scene of both rollers slowly rotating with open (white) gobo.
They are a bit "busy" thou -the CA8 controller can slow them down, and I've be aiming some basic moonflowers on the dancefloor.
Currently considering another DynaRoll (in a few months..), and cropping the tops of 2 T-Bars to hold 1 x DynaTwin and 1 x DynaRoll each, with probably LED Par Can for colour wash..
Anyway, back to your question.. The Twin part of these lights does mean independant DMX control- apart from a shared PSU & Chassis, its basically 2 lights in one.
I broke a mirror on one of mine recently - currently getting 2 (1 spare) from my supplier. This was broken when pulling out of its protex case...

Thanks for the replies
I see the 250w dynatwin and 250w dynaroll's are now discontinued. The 250w dynarocks are still there as is the 100w dynatwin.
I may opt for the 250w dynaroll but need to see one in action
the fans are a bit noisey but will have to live with that.
cheers

Shame you can't make the meet-up in a few weeks. I'd have brought mine along..
I may be in the market for a 2nd DynaRoll... so them being discontinued may help (or may not!)
The fan isn't a problem (IMO), with all 3 "Dyna" units running, you can't hear it on the dance-floor, even on during a ballad..
The newer LED units are looking good- but price vs brightness, halogen is always cheaper, and easier to replace a lamp!

Sorry to dig this thread up....
I can't focus my Dynaroll very well - i bought it s/h, and just want to know what the "state" of the focussing lens - Does it have a lense close to the ring itself - or is it a gaping "hole" and only one lense right at the other end of the twisty bit?
Hopefully this photo will explain more - The only lense is the one right at the bottom. there's nothing else in the "void" until you hit that lense...

Reason I ask is just packing up my Spinmaster III's and thes ehave two lenses on the focus ring - one at the top and one at the other end...
Can anyone else check theirs?
Cheers,
David

Hi Dave,
my DynaRoll has the rings out further towards the mirrors. I can confirm there is only 1 lens per side.
I'm not sure, but there may be an internal lens just above the lamp (its been ages since I needed to change a lamp, so will need to check)
I would suggest switching them on, and unwinding about 1 or 2 cm and then focus it on the other end of your lounge, I don't think mine are out much further, but will check when I get home.

Cheers Jas. I couldn't get them to focus at all on Friday night and noticed that they were a bit different compared to the spinmaster's focussing.
The internel lenses are there, however one of them may need glueing back down (might explain why the pattern displayed is more out of focus than the other one - its like potentially 1mm of movement..
Have also noticed that the side "out of focus" compared to the other one has a dark "shade". This could be the bulb not focussed correctly (or the bulb is getting old and the filament has "dropped" a bit)...
The "good" side is now out about 1.5-2cm The "bad" side is out the same distance and abit out of focus still - if I roate any further out the barrel gets caught on it!

How annoying !

Nice replies there, as I too have noticed that with my Dynaroll one side has very good gobo projection and 'shoots' the images right across the floor and onto the ceiling and the other one

doesn't!
So it may be down to the bulb as I have had a quick look and it appears that the silver backing to this bulb is somewhat lacking so I will be getting a couple over the next day or so and giving it a go!
Again with the focussing if you wind out the lense cap too far the barrels catch themselves onit and stop moving so maybe someone has suggestions on how to better focus these without this happenning (and don't say wind them back in!

)
One a similar note any one use any Acme Duets? I have two and am on the look out for another one, so if you know of any in good condition and working well please drop me a line.
Carry on!

I had a "play" earlier on. I noticed that the RH barrel wasn't parallel to the rest of the body when it was rotated fully (to the right or the left, can't remmeber). So basically I bended the barrel up (finger on the inside on the metal bracket that mounts the barrel), so it was now parallel.
Result - Barrel no longer catches on the focus ring, and its actually focussing much better now...
Also the metal work is qutie flimsy throughout I think
I noticed that it "rocked" when sat on its 4 feet. looking at it, where the nearest screw between both sets of feet to the left and right - if you put it down a bit too violently, it "pushes" up the front part, so it goes "out of shape". I forgot to take a photo of the bottom bit - but its a good 2-3mm that could make all the difference in focussing things..... I thinkt he Spinmaster's were built like tanks in comparison :/
Check the bulbs - Mine came with two philips branded bulbs, the thing is bright. (not as bright as the soundlab scanners though!), and now I've managed to focus them on the ceiling/wall of the office, hopefully that's another thing "ready" for this weekend's 21st!
In other news, I found my USB DMX Controller, yay!
Cheers,
David
