Hi all, I've started Video DJing and Karaoke in the past few months, luckily so far all the venues I have done have left me use their projector or large screen TV and this has worked very well. However there will of course be gigs where this won't be possible, so I need to think of getting either a projector & screen or a large LCD to display videos etc. I know there are some VJ's who use this forum so what is your opinion? I would be leaning towards a projector and screen at the moment purely because of weight an and space in the car. Obviously i would need to be able to do reverse projection for a better effect, can anybody recommend a good screen for this? I assume the traditional tripod ones can't do this because of the support bar behind the screen.

If I was to go the LCD route is there a good stand available to hold a 38-42" screen? To be honest I can't see myself going this way due to the weight and space issue, but would like to weigh up both options properly before I purchase. Any thoughts / suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

LCD and Plasma flat panel TV stands on wheels are available like the sort of thing they used to use in schools but obviously for flat panel, they're very dear but will withstand the rigours of travel. (The TV will no doubt need a flight case or else the first bump you go over and it'll have a great crack across its middle; or they should be transported upright).

Thanks, like I said due to weight and storage restrictions I'm probably going to go for a projector and screen, but will need a screen capable of rear projection, and they seem to be very expensive, although I don't mind spending on quality gear I'd like to get the best value I can all the same, so if anybody has any links to a good value rear projection screen I'd really appreciate it.

I use both, a projector for the larger venues and 42" TV for the smaller but I have to say the TV is by far the better of the two the quality of video and pictures is amazing....unless of course you are going to spend a lot of money on a bright projector. Mine is 2700 lumens. I certainly would not consider anything below this, this time of year when it is still light and you will be using it ...if it aint bright enough it will be useless so try before you buy is my advice.

Sorry no idea about rear projection screen as I dont use one

Cheapest I could find;
http://www.jp-uk.co.uk/projector-screens/f...-sffs203rp.html

2000mm x 1500mm £653 inc.

For me... I'd use this for VDJ and/or photo slideshows (as an extra service for Weddings)
You'll need ideally a projector with a short throw lens- you probably will have problems if you need a few meters clearance behind the screen.

You can get "cloth only", and this is cheaper (~£250), but you'll need to engineer your own frame..

Thanks lads, jason that is exactly the type of screen I am looking for thanks, perhaps a bit smaller 2m x 1.5m is quite large, expensive obviously, but this is a long term investment i guess, and should pay off, I simply don't have space in the car after I load speakers and playback equipment, to carry a cased 42" LCD / Plasma. Perhaps if I had a van I'd consider it, but I need something with a back seat as I have kids. This video Djing is popular with the places I have played so far, but to be honest I don't think I'm adding enough of a premium given the cost of MP4's, screens etc. Will need to re-evaluate my pricing structure I think. BTW I have virtual DJ and use the slideshow function, the screen will have three uses throughout the night, slideshow, video and karaoke, well worth an investment in a good screen when you consider how much use it will get, picture quality and a good projector will be another consideration, but thats another days work, thanks again.
