The school my kids go to have asked me to provide some bg music at their summer fair along with a mic for announcements, which im more than happy to do for free

however i would also like to raise some cash for the school but cant think what would be the best to get a reasonable return for the effort.

they suggested a jukebox - pay for a song but as we are limited to 2 hours the take could be as little as £20 based on 50p per track

i suggested karaoke for £1 a go but again that would raise limited funds by the time i have called up singers etc

Any ideas other than the above or 'put money in the bucket or i will sing myself'

did consider filling the stage with lights and smoke and doing a pop star photo shoot but it wont be anywhere dark enough and access is a real issue. We maybe outside if the weather is right.

I did also think about a book me quoting the summer fair and i will donate a percentage of my fee type thing

cheers

I'm doing the background + announcements (and probably general running around) this Saturday afternoon at our PTA Summer Fair...

I'm going to suggest something like 10% will go to PTA if they quote the summer fair / the school's name. (After all it is them that got me back into it, and I have used their equipment in the past).

In fact I think I'm gonna get something on their weekly newsletter this week.. Except my website is still in limbo (my fault!) wallbash.gif

Cheers,

Hi Dave,
how about a "be a DJ" session..? with 2hrs, not much time, worth a bit more than simply requesting a song..
Not too sure what gear you have (playback), but allow a lad up to cue up the next track and actually kick it off (ie - big up "DJ danny" etc) would be worth a few quid more... obviously dad etc. could be allowed to take photos...

With normal gear- not many options - but I hope this helps.. Kudos for getting involved though!

What about recoding the kids singing karaoke and burning the track to a CD which they can buy for 5 quid a go? Again time constraints mean you won't raise £100s but it all helps.

I think that Karaoke in a public place is not a good idea.If you go to a pub or club you know what you are going to get, there would be an awful lot of people at your fair who dont particularly like Karaoke.
I like the idea of donating part of your fee but perhaps make sure they have one of your cards when they book.

How about a Dutch auction? Could be risky but could also be a good money maker you will need something to auction though.

More than likely me sad.gif

I once offered a free disco for any event through a sealed bid auction and it made £22. Luckily for me i ended up doing a 2 hour kids party 5 miles away. (there were t&c's)

Thanks for all the suggestions, will put it to the PTA for a decision, keep em coming though
