It's good to know that LED pro lighting is getting much better now and the LED technology is going from strength to strength. LED lighting is really getting far better now but the ultimate question is, which LED lighting would you consider the best at the moment? I like those 30W LED moving heads by Indigo, they have the white casings and they look the part. Good pricing and the gobos look cool too. I recon that in 1-2 years time, LED lighting will be upto 100-200W single LED but I can't imagine what kind of outlay we'd be looking at.

I agree its getting better but the cost in some cases is offputting

typical example
Acme dynamo 250 scanner twin pack £245
Acme genesis led gobo scanner twin pack £357

Not a vast difference and they will become cheaper. Still lacking a decent gobo effect for a sensible price.

Yeah, I think a lot of the LED stuff is lacking in the gobo department and I think this will be the next biggest thing brands should seriously consider because those dorts are really boring!

I believe there are already 120watt LEDs available (RGBW).

There's a fixture I was reading about which has 7 x 120w modular LEDs in it, by Vari-Lite..

http://www.proaudio-central.com/Products/L...-/Vari-Lite-VLX

So its possible now, but guess prices will come down in a couple of years as more of these are made/manufacturing scales etc.

Cheers!

interesting when you read the article - 7 x120w LED chipsets - which could easily ready 4 x 30w LEDS, 1 in each colour......

without sounding too gloomy about LED, they are great for what they do, I think you will find another light emitting technology will come along (such as LEP or OLED) which will take the focus and investment away from LED.

They are good - but still very resource hungry to make each one.

I think L.E.D certainly has come along way from what it was, but I don't think it really stormed the market as manufacturers hoped for. L.E.D is great for mood lighting, or colour washes, but effect wise, im still not convinced. Perhaps I am partly speaking from a theatrical background too, but still wouldn't let go of my halogen based fixtures for L.E.D.

OLED = Organic LED - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organic_LED

LEP = Light Emitting Polmers (?) - See same URL above..

I had an OLED mp3 player (somewhere in the loft still), which was quite good considering it was free!

Cheers,
