recently i bought a load of second hand par cans 4 X par 64's all ok and 7 X par 56 cans 3 working and 4 not , the four that were not ...the common fault was the mains lead into the can , this was so thin and of low quality that over a period of time breaks occurred in the cable... not always in the same place but often at the cable grip gland .... or at an end where a iec connector had been fitted .. it at first appeared as if it was a loose connection in the connector on each can but after further inspection and a £10 test meter i found it was the cable..so

I took each can apart and rewired the cans with new cable , soldered and heat shrunk covered the connections and re cable tied the wires to keep them tidy ...now i have 7 fully working par 56 cans .
I will get them PAT tested next week.

Has anyone else had this fault on the ledj 56 cans?

CAUTION I am NOT making this post advising people to take there cans apart as to meddle with electrical items if you have no knowledge or skill in order to repair any electrical item could be fatal.. but more for those DJ's who may have seen this fault on LEDJ par 56 ........"they come on if you wiggle the cable" and who do have the skills and knowledge in order for a quicker diagnosis ..phew should cover me ..i think kid.gif

seems to be, there have been lots for sale as job lots not working / customer returns at a fraction of the new price.
There were some from sale at lighting partners for £10.00 each with no returns could be a good buy for someone who has got some time to repair them.

If you look there are lots of job lots of all LED for repair must say something about the chinese quality.

The insides are pretty well made its just the cheap mains cable.. 50p extra at manufacturing would have made a much more reliable par can ...false economy to me. They take about 10 mins to replace a mains cable could be a bargain if that's all that's up with them. one had a dry joint on the microphone so sound to light wasn't working dab of solder and back to full function.

I notice you buy a lot of quality retro lights and have them done up..its quite rewarding tinkering and getting them working i bet , i actually enjoyed fixing these.

I was having this very conversation with the lighting guy from a semi-famous tribute band just yesterday.

I recommended fitting them with 1mm TRS.
