Hi all

I currently own a Rhino wind up truss system with two 2 metre sections across the top, but many of my gigs have only ever needed me to use the one section, so I have been applying some thought..... kid.gif

As I'm sure many of us are aware the time snet setting up and striking the equipment around a gig is never realy chargable and alot of the time is wasted looking for the right cable or lead etc for the light you have just attached to the rig!

So I have come up with the solution that I think may work for me, I will prewire one section of the truss so that all I need do when I arrive at a venue is attach the lights and off I go! (hardly ground breaking I know)

But due to my transportation facilities the truss section is tied onto the roofbar next to my roofbox and so I can't really get it wet should and of course it wll be raining when I first use it!

So I am looking for a bag that can accomodate said truss sections and allow me to attach it to the roofbar and remain waterproof, it does not have to be specifically for a section of truss I have even looked for canoe cases etc but to no avail so any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Thankyou biggrin.gif

Will it fit in a large roofbox?

Otherwise, I think you'll be looking at some custom bag - but getting a decent waterproof one will be expensive.

Another option, pre-wire the loom (if you're using DMX+Power, see if you can wrap those together.
Then pull the wiring loom through the truss/stand when you set-up, and the connectors etc will be in the right place for you.

I've done this in a simple way for the signal and power cables from my Subs to Tops.
Saves a few mins hunting for the correct cables, and the loom contains velcro tags that wrap the loom to the speaker pole.

(no, I didn't buy 750... you can these off ebay fairly cheap)

The rest of the loom is tied with normal nylon tiewraps;

This would allow your metalwork to get wet (not a good idea anyway), but keep the wiring in the car/van

Arriba make cases especially for trussing.

No idea if they're waterproof.

I like the idea of cabling already done. *hmmn*

Wonder if that will work with the plastic snake stuff then just tie that to the t-bar uprights...

Dammit you've got me thinking now...

It works well for my subs>tops. I used black ty-wraps to keep them together, with a bits of those velcro ties to secure them to the speaker poles.
I've got them stored in my speaker bags, so very quick to get power & signal to the tops.

I've a pre-rigged t-bar, with DMX & Power, with the quick-release brackets. This also saves quite a bit of time.
Thinking a bit further- I guess I could pre-wire power & XLR from my main playback.

The main downside is potentially pick-up from the mains cables to DMX/XLR (audio) by having them so close.
It should be ok (with balanced signals)..but I guess there is still scope for problems.

9/10 times you're running the XLR next to mains anyway.. but as you say it *should* be properly balanced and shouldnt cause problems...

I could do with some quick-release brackets..

You could do what a friend of mine did.......use a large fishing rod case, they do make waterproof ones. however they are not cheap.

Thanks all I shall keep looking with thise ideas thrown in for good measure! biggrin.gif

One thing that I have been meaning to mention for ages is that one my previous goalpost setup that I used to use I always hated the look of all the wires feeed through the bracing beams and then of course untangling them at the end of the night! SO...........

Here's what i came up with, now talking about one section at a time now... on the front of the cross section I fixed a peice of 4x1 timber I drilled some large holes init to give it the appearance of a metal girder type thingy and painted it black to blend it in with the truss.

this faced the audience. on the reverse side I added two gutter mounting brackets and two sections of halfmoon section guttering leaving a gap in the centre to run cables down between them for the lights etc.

This meant that all I had to do at the gigs was attach the lights to the truss and then 'lay the cables' in the guttering running them as required to each light etc.

If I could work out how to upload an image I could show you if anyone would like an idea please pm me and I shall be happy to send any across

Saved an absolute age in setting up but as mentioned above I cannot do the same with triangular trussing

So I will keep looking and many thanks once again for your continued support and advice 042.gif
