Hello Ive havent posted for a long time so I thought I would tonite.

Im at the wedding venue now - managed to get wireless access, and working with a folk type band. theyre doing a barn dance - caller type thing.

Now they started had a break which I filled now theyre on again. How do you lot find working with bands where 'we' are both totally different?

They had a few dancing to start with but now theyre back on after me nobodys interested!!! now I like to work with other people and entertainers so I cant help feelin a little 'sorry' for them. sadwalk.gif

Your opinions please?

but ive had it the other way around aswell when people are there for the band and not boffered bout the disco !!! wallbash.gif

dunno? wot do think?

thanks

Normally, I try to find out "who's who" in the band, and so offer smooth change over..

Jason :"lets raise our hands for xxxxx.. "
Band: "Thank you Jason"
Jason: "Great stuff Sue, looking veryforward to hearing more of the same later"
"Ok folks... was bandxxxx grea or what??? come on.. give it up for xxxxx!!!!"

etc
etc

Basically, acting as compere..

Gettting on their side can really help. If they are bombing, then I strongly suggest that you use all you can to big them up - join in dancing etc.
Obviously there are limits... but do your best- it will be appreciated by the band, guests and venue.

When YOU get on, the guest will know you're up for a good time... so hopefully have an easier life!

As an ex axe weilding metalhead and now ageing dj i can fully appreciate both sides of the spectrum here. I love working with good bands and i often, like jason said, find some key info on who they are etc. I also ask for a set list so i dont play any of their music. sometimes people are there for either act and sometimes both and if you are the unlucky one all you can do is grit your teeth get paid and thank your client.

One or 2 bands i work with a very hard acts to follow as they do some really good covers of some of my top drawer soul, motown and rock songs.

Ps I can guarantee you have never seen anything like this - look at my latest thread in the how was it for you.
